Johnny Burgin often travels without a band and discovers new and fruitful collaborations along the way. The album 'Ramblin' From Coast To Coast' is the result of eleven original blues tracks. Registered en route, from Dallas via Cincinnati, Rochester NY and Memphis TN. Because Burgin was recording from Coast To Coast, so nineteen musicians were used. Melding the talents of songwriter/vocalist/harmonica master Rick Estrin, wildly unpredictable guitar genius Kid Andersen, keyboard giant Lorenzo Farrell and drummer extraordinaire Derrick “D’Mar” Martin, the Nightcats have delivered another album of instantly memorable songs and startlingly great performances. All but two songs are originals, ranging from the most danceable tune you ever heard about drug addiction, to serious slow blues, to hard-charging rockers, to streetwise (and sometimes hilarious) songs, and the album closes with a dreamlike excursion into the crazed consciousness of the Nightcats. And, as a surprise to their hordes of fans (and the Alligator staff), Rick and the band created a bluesified version of Leonard Cohen’s Everybody Knows!

Beaux Gris Gris And The Apocalypse is a Californian band fronted by Greta Valenti, aka Beaux Gris Gris on lead vocals and percussion. The second supporter of the group is guitarist Robin Davey, known from The Hoax. For the other members, the duo draws from a collective of musicians, so the composition of the band is not always the same. For the recording of this album, the pair called on Stephen Mildwater and Chris Cunningham both on bass, Sam Robertson on keys and Tom Rasulo on drums and percussion. Guest musicians were hired for the horn section. The band's repertoire is difficult to pigeonhole. New Orleans is certainly a source of inspiration, just like blues, soul, folk and rock. With 'Hot Nostalgia Radio' the group is already on their third album. It contains 14 tracks, all by Greta and Robin. Energetic and heavy rocking, Beaux Gris Gris and The Apocalypse start with 'Oh Yeah!', where Greta's vocals immediately grab you by the scruff of the neck and Robin provides sublime guitar work. The tone is immediately set for the rest of the album. The band continues blues rocking with dedication with 'Wild Woman' and 'Satisfy Your Queen'. In 'Middle Of The Night' the horns provide a funky touch and on 'Sad When I'm Dancing' it is a bit quieter, while for a sublime blues ballad you can go to 'All I Could Do Was Cry'. Song that highlights Greta's enormous empathy in a song. She also shows this in the soulful 'The Runaway', 'Don't Let Go' and 'Penny Paid Rockstar'. A touch of folk characterizes 'Harder To Breathe'. The album closes with the zydeco-radiating 'Mama Cray'.
'Hot Nostalgia Radio' convincingly showcases the versatility of Beaux Gris Gris and The Apocalypse, both in the heavier and quieter work. One to keep an eye on!

The release ‘BadNews Travels Fast’ was produced by multi-Grammy-winner Tom Hambridge, who also played drums and cowrote all of the songs on the new album with Barnes. Joining in the recording fun was an “A-list” of Nashville musicians, along with such special guests as singers Jimmy Hall and Sugaray Rayford, and guitarist Walter Trout.

The It’s a sound that combines classic soul melodies and funky R&B grooves with raw blues power. Sugaray Rayford is pleased to announce the June 14th release of Human Decency via Forty Below Records. The title track is a simple reminder that our similarities are more substantial than our differences, and in the end, there is no black or white or left or right; there are only hearts and minds.

The Cinelli Brothers are an award-winning four-piece band from London, consisting of Italians Marco and Alessandro Cinelli, London-born Tom Julian Jones and Stephen Giry who hails from France. They are a true melting pot of musicality, showmanship and charisma. Their sound is an amalgam of soul and blues, with a contemporary twist that honors the songwriting craftsmanship of their greatest influences. The band has released four albums, including their latest studio album 'Almost Exactly', recorded in Woodstock, NY. The Cinelli Brothers celebrated all this with an album release show at a sold-out The Cutting Room in New York City. Is it soul or lived-in blues, it doesn't really matter to them. Highly recommended! 

The Ford Motor Company was founded on June 16, 1903 by Henry Ford. That same year, Ford achieved its first success with the production of the 'Model A'. A model that was extremely popular in the late 1940s as a basis for designing and building Hot Rods. After the end of the Second World War, the 'T model' (1910-1920), the 'As model' (1928-1931) and the 'Bs model' (1932-1934) were extremely popular among Hot Rod enthusiasts. In the fifties it were the rockers who organized races for it. In the more luxurious segment of the car industry, Ford scored with the Lincoln, named after President Abraham Lincoln. However, not all models that Ford launched were successful. The 1949 to 1951 Fords were labeled as 'shoe box cars' and the Ford Edsel, named after Henry's son, was a commercial flop. The reasons for the lack of success were the appearance, the economic recession, the price problem and the numerous production problems, such as defective welds, leaking trunks and problems with the power steering.
Ford later expanded its branches worldwide, which gave the brand a lot of name recognition. Over the years, Ford allo bought Volvo, Land Rover, Jaguar and Aston Martin.
Reasons enough to put Ford in the spotlight on its 121st anniversary with 30 songs by well-known and lesser-known artists. The songs may have the name 'Ford' in the lyrics or the bands may have chosen a Ford model as the name.
'Start the engine and let's go'! Who immediately sounds through the speakers is Curtis Gordon, who delivers a hell of a rockabilly song with 'Draggin''. Curtis is followed by class act Gene Vincent who talks about his 'Pink Thunderbird', 'with a red fur seat'. Eddie Cochran also honored Ford with 'Pink Peg Slacks' and in 'Somethin' Else'.
More famous people arrive with Janis Martin. She transformed Buck Griffin's 'Let's Elope Baby' into a real rock 'n' roller. 'She had a high speed motor in a 44 coupe', impressed the rocking 'Hot Rod Baby' Rocky Davis. Lefty Nicks gives his 'Model A-Ford Blues' an authentic country blues jacket. The T-model inspired Rosco Gordon for his 'T-Model Boogie'. Willie Love was more in the mood for a stronger engine. He chose 'V8 Ford', a song that exudes a slow blues atmosphere. A beautiful piece of blues harp is cleverly contained in 'Mercury Boogie' by K.C Douglas Trio.
Betty Rogers presents a wonderful cover version of Hank Williams' 'Hey Good Lookin''. Buddy Knox also opted for a cover. He took Chuck Berry's 'Maybellene' and gave it a great rockabilly twist.
For beautiful doo-wop you can go to The Fairlanes and 'Johnny Rhythm'. The Fairlanes later appear together with lead singer Charles Perrywell in 'Come Along With Me', which has a Chuck Berry edge. You get Chuck Berry himself in 'Jaguar and Thunderbird'.
More doo-wop comes with the band that chose a Ford model as the group name, namely The Edsels. They go up-tempo in 'Shake Sherry Shake'. The Lincolns also chose their group name in the same way. They are present with the also uptempo 'Pleasin' You - Pleases Me'.
There is also beautiful harmony singing with the vocal women's group The Delicates in 'Black And White Thunderbird'. Another vocal group The Paramounts chose the same model with 'Thunderbird Baby'. You can certainly rock on the sax-driven instrumental 'What's The Word' by The Thunder Rocks. Another nice instrumental serves up Sunset Dragster's Orchestra. You can hear what a Thunderbird should sound like in their 'Boss T Bird'.
The album ends with 'Arkie Meets The Judge' by Arkie Shibley and The Mountain Dew Boys, set to a hillbilly instrumental background.
'121 Years Of The Ford Car' is not only a beautiful ode to a car brand that made mobility possible for the general public, but also offers a collection of sublime songs in genres such as blues, rock 'n' roll, rockabilly and hillbilly. On the groundbreaking new collection ‘New Moves’ Marshall Chess and Jamar Chess team with producer Keith LeBlanc to dive into their family’s hallowed Chess Records vault; offering stunning reinterpretations of Chess’ blues legends, many of whom Marshall worked with firsthand. Featuring The Chess Project - a band hand-recruited by LeBlanc with Marshall and Jamar - the album highlights world class musicians who’ve backed artists like James Brown, Aretha Franklin and Tina Turner as they reimagine Chess gems first recorded by Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, Memphis Slim, Little Walter, Sonny Boy Williamson and more. ‘New Moves’ is an album nearly two decades in the making, conceived by Marshall Chess and Keith LeBlanc whom he met while working at the pioneering hip-hop label Sugar Hill Records (who helped launch artists like Sugarhill Gang, Grandmaster Flash and Melle Mel). The original idea was to use samples of the original Chess blues masters combined with new original instrumental tracks created by LeBlanc. Primer & Corritore has a fourth collaborative project with 'Crawlin' Kingsnake'. They found their soulmates in the legendary Bob Stroger on bass, Wes Starr (drums and percussion), Jimi Smith on guitar and backing vocals and pianist Anthony Geraci. The Chicago blues shuffle 'Take A Message' is credited to James Cotton, just as 'Crawlin' Kingsnake' is originally by John Lee Hooker, but has here the vibe of Muddy Waters. Primer shines vocally in the Willie Dixon's classic 'Down In The Bottom', which was a hit in 1961 for Howlin' Wolf. The track 'Hiding Place' was composed by Primer, just like the slow blues 'Chains And Things' belonged to B.B. King is. And then follows a triptych of Muddy songs. 'Stuff You Gotta Watch' is a killer boogie, 'Rosalee Blues' a wonderful ballad and the masterful 'Feels Like Going Home'. After the funky 'You're The One' we dive into the deep Delta with the gospel-inspired 'Bow Down On Your Knees', we head to the Windy City for the blues shuffle 'This Little Voice' and they dusted off Magic Slims 'Gravel Road'. ' from under the dust. Primer's lived-in Chicago blues voice and compelling guitar playing form a perfect combination with Corritore's virtuoso harmonica and this legendary rhythm section. The blues still alive!

Their blend of traditional blues with their innovative and modern original material has made them the band to see in Maine." Cryin’ Out Loud is a dynamic blues band that is currently touring and recording albums. And with that we are happy to announce that Cryin’ Out Loud’s ‘Play Loud, Smoke Often’ is coming soon! Produced by Grammy award winner Paul Nelson and recorded in Bangor, Maine, their debut release is highly anticipated and inspired by the likes of The Band, The Allman Brothers Band, Little Feat, and of course all the blues greats. There is something for everyone! This album is full of brand new originals and features guest appearances from Erik Lawrence of Little Feat, Paul Nelson of The Paul Nelson Band, and Ana Popovic’s renowned keyboardist, Michele Papadia.

The sound is a nice mix of rock, blues, Americana, country and southern rock with sincere lyrics, with a nice seventies touch. 

It is common knowledge that the American roots genres inspired each other. For example, new genres such as rock 'n' roll and rockabilly were based on rhythm & blues and country. While white artists sought inspiration in these genres, it also happened in the other direction when black artists turned to country. We get to hear 29 songs of this on 'Shotgun Boogie, Rhythm & Blues Goes Country'. We start straight away with Wynonie Harris who delivers a beautiful rhythm & blues version of Louis Innis' 'Good Morning Judge'. Later he does the same with 'Bloodshot Eyes'. For the title track 'Shotgun Boogie', Eddie Mack, accompanied by the Cootie Williams orchestra, consulted Tennessee Ernie Ford. Mack is also featured a second time with Merle Travis's 'Divorce Me C.O.D.' Blues'. Hank Williams was not only often covered in rock 'n' roll and rockabilly, but the rhythm & blues artists gave his repertoire a very original twist. You can convince yourself of this with Fat Man Robinson and Sonny Knight, in 'My Bucket's Got A Hole In It' and 'Lovesick Blues' respectively. More Hank Williams to come with The Griffin Brothers, feat. Margie Day in 'Move It On Over'. Vocal groups also returned to the country repertoire with great fondness. The Crows delivered a beautiful presentation with the Bill Carlisle composition 'No Help Wanted' and also note the boogie-woogie-inspired piano part by Viola Watkins. You will later get that same song in a solid rhythm & blues version by Bob Gaddy and His Alley Cats. Cole Porter's 'Don't Fence Me In' was given a well-fitting crooner suit in the hands of Tommy Edwards. Such a typical country song is 'Ghost Riders In The Sky'. That changes when 'Scat Man' Crothers gives it a jazzy bluesy twist. Country with a New Orleans rhythm & blues feel presents Smiley Lewis in Link Davis' 'Big Mamou'. Another frequently covered song is Merle Travis' ‘Sixteen Tons’, a song immortalized by Tennessee Ernie Ford. The Platters give the song the depth it deserves. You can also listen to 'Sixteen Tons' later in the blues version of B.B. King. 'Cherokee Boogie (Eh-Oh-Aleena) comes in two versions. The first is the swinging one by Joey Thomas and the second by Moose Jackson. 'Crying In The Chapel' gained enormous fame through Elvis. The Orioles kept the gospel feel and supplemented it with delicious doo-wop. Johnnie Lee Wills gave 'Rag Mop' that typical country feeling. Joe Liggins together with his Honeydrippers transformed the song into a catchy rhythm & blues. Dazzling guitar work awaits you in the instrumental 'Steel Guitar Rag' by Earl Hooker, in which the country is still clearly audible. Country can also be heard in 'Pick Me Up On Your Way Down' by Guitar Jr. Hal Singer presents another beautiful instrumental, but now on sax, with 'Indian Love Call'. 'Pistol Pickin' Mama' is certainly well-known, here in the beautiful doo-wop rhythm & blues version by The Hurricanes.
Closing is reserved for the previously performed 'Shot Gun Boogie' by Eddie Mack and Cootie Williams, which you now get in Cecil Gant's version.
The interaction between country and rhythm & blues produced many beautiful versions of well-known and lesser-known country songs. On this first volume in 'Rhythm & Blues Goes Country' you will hear 28 gems.

Ever since learning to play her first guitar chords in a bluegrass jam at the age of thirty-five, Sue has been discovering her truth in song. These days, her music inhabits the borderlands where blues, folk, country, and soul meet. On Keeping Time, Sue’s unique capacity for pairing meaningful and topical lyrics with ear-catching melodies shines through. 

Last year the first volume of 'Destination Jail' was published and since there are still many songs within blues and rhythm & blues that are related to this, a second volume is now being released. Once again you get 24 songs that all relate to life behind bars. A subject that was often part of lyrics in the blues and rhythm & blues. The black community was initially victims of slavery and that would haunt this community for a long time. There was still no question of equal rights. For example, blacks were referred to prison more quickly than whites and they also served longer sentences for the same offenses committed by whites.
The songs on this compilation date from the 1950s and 1960s and are performed by both well-known and lesser-known and sometimes completely unknown artists. The album starts with 'But Officer' by Sonny Knight. A very special song, in which the voice of the 'officer' is performed by sax and Sonny tries hopelessly to defend himself with 'but officer'. A large number of well-known names can be found on this album. You will find Wynonie Harris with 'Good Morning Judge', a beautiful swinging rhythm & blues. Dave Bartholomew is generally and rightly regarded as the architect of New Orleans rhythm & blues. He did this on the basis of clever compositions. You can hear one of these from Smiley Lewis with 'Jailbird'. New Orleans rhythm & blues is also the basis for Sonny Knight's rocking 'Jail Bird'. One of the most famous performers of New Orleans rhythm & blues is Fats Domino. He showcases that again here during 'Prisoner's Song'. Blues musician Lonesome Sundown is certainly also well known. With 'My Home Is A Prison' he creates a compelling blues. Eddie Boyd and Ottilie Patterson also do this, in 'I'm A Prisoner' and 'Jailhouse Blues' respectively. Blues pianist Roosevelt Sykes is also present, with the extremely beautiful 'Jailbait', which contains both rhythm & blues and a pinch of jazz. The well-known artists follow each other in rapid succession. For a wonderful mix of rhythm & blues and soul, Billy Boy Arnold is the right one, here with 'Prisoner's Plea'. Josh White serves a beautiful 'down home blues' with 'Ball And Chain Blues'. T-Bone Walker was and still is an example for many guitarists, but he also knows how to impress vocally, such as in 'Prison Blues'. More famous people will later appear with Magic Sam in '21 Days In Jail'. A formidable, somewhat hilarious version of 'Riot In Cell Block No. 9' you get from The Robins. Group that would later be transformed into The Coasters. You get a nice example of harmonica blues with Willie Nix and his 'Prison Bound Blues'. Nix was accused of murder and therefore experienced prison life first-hand. 'Chain Gang' was immortalized by Sam Cooke. Here you get a female version of Theola Kilgore, as 'Chain Gang – The Sound Of My Man'. There is beautiful singing with the vocal group The Prisonaires, all of whom also stayed in the Tennessee State Penitentiary. The Larks close with doo-wop and a bit of gospel in 'When I Leave These Prison Walls'.
The second volume of 'Destination Jail' again has a lot of beautiful blues and rhythm & blues to offer. Definitely worth it!

Gulf Coast Records announces the signing of New England-based blues/roots band The Wicked Lo-Down, and will release their label debut CD ‘Out of Line’. The 13-track “Out of Line,” which includes 11 originals and two covers: Hound Dog Taylor’s “Just Can’t Make It” and a Texas-shuffle re-imagining of Britney Spears’ “Toxic,” with Monster Mike Welch on guitar.

His highly anticipated new album, Dream Job, was recorded in the revered music mecca of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, where many of the greats have recorded over the years, like Aretha Franklin, The Rolling Stones, Bob Seger, Wilson Pickett, Joe Cocker and many more. The band on the album showcases some legendary players, including Kelvin Holly (Little Richard, Bobby “Blue” Bland), Clayton Ivey (The Staple Sisters, Thelma Houston), Justin Holder (Keb Mo’, Delbert McClinton) and Shonna Tucker (Booker T. Jones, Drive-By-Truckers). The album is produced the Dick Cooper of The Cooper Brothers and features special guest appearances by Grammy Award winner, Colin Linden and Juno Award winning singer, Kellylee Evans. ‘Dream Job’ might be the boldest statement to date of Jeff’s vocal talent and songwriting gifts. Stay tuned. The story is just getting started.  

The Alders & The Ashes will be a double-length album consisting of 17 songs laid down at L.A.’s famed United Recording with multiple Grammy-winning engineer Ross Hogarth. The group, led by Romani-Canadian musician Candace Lacina and world-renowned Hammond B3 player Mike Little, The Hello Darlins consist of some of Canada’s most in-demand session musicians who came together to forge a distinct hybrid of country, gospel and blues. 

With this volume we have also come to the end of the 'Blues Meets Doo-Wop' series. Over the course of 4 volumes, compiler Little Victor, aka The 'Mojo' Man, proved that doo-wop not only comes into its own during Christmas, but also that doo-wop and blues have many similarities. Both genres are about emotions and when those genres come together in one song, it creates fireworks. We were able to enjoy this in an exceptional way during this series. But as already mentioned, this unfortunately comes to an end, but not before we take a closer look at volume 4. Once again it is striking that both well-known and lesser-known artists have miraculously merged both genres into one song. Blues artists who hired doo-wop backing vocals, or doo-wop groups who gave their songs a blues or rhythm & blues feel. Was that mixing conscious or rather coincidental? No one will be able to say for sure. What is a fact is that the merger has been a great success.
We start with a legend, namely B.B. King. With 'Please Accept Me' he brings a more than beautiful soul song. Willie Dixon was heard as bassist on many blues recordings. He also has many hits to his name as a composer. Here he takes place behind the microphone for the bluesy '29 Ways'. Vocally he is supported by The Moonglows. Dixon is followed by another celebrity, guitarist Tarheel Slim. He collaborated with The Wheels on the exciting rhythm & blues 'Let's Have A Ball'. With The Larks he later closes this album on acoustic guitar and with handclaps with 'Eyesight To The Blind'. Superior number! Pianist Memphis Slim was known in both boogie-woogie and blues. Here, seated at the black and white keys, he creates a fantastic blues song with 'Mother Earth'. A pleasant song is certainly the slow blues 'Front Page Blues' by the vocal group The Solotones. Another vocal group, The Del Vikings, also scores immensely with the uptempo 'Woke Up This Morning', a formidable remake of B.B. King's number. Someone you immediately recognize by his style is Jimmy Reed. He does not deny that style on 'Close Together'. Hank Ballard is the uncrowned king of the twist, from which Chubby Checker reaped the benefits. Ballard is present with his inseparable The Midnighters in the shuffle 'I'm Crying Mercy Mercy'. 'Blues Stay Away From Me' has been covered repeatedly. Here you get a beautiful version of Otis Williams and His Charms. You undoubtedly know 'Linda Lu' in several versions. For Ray Sharpe it was his biggest hit, noted here as 'The New Linda Lu'. The list of well-known artists also includes Pee Wee Crayton, Albert King and Jimmy Witherspoon. The first has a beautiful slow blues with 'I Don't Care'. King scores rhythm & blues wise with 'Had You Told Me Like It was', a song that will not go unnoticed in popcorn circles. Witherspoon has a vocal group in The Lamplighters that takes 'Move Me Baby' to a higher level.
Furthermore, superior work by Baby Washington, The Enchanters, The Nic Nacs, Dorothy Prince, Henry Pierce and his Five Notes, The Chanteclairs, The Clovers and Camille & The Creations.
Unfortunately, the statement 'all good songs come to an end' also applies to the 'Blues Meets Doo-Wop' series. However, I am firmly convinced that compiler Little Victor will surprise us again in one way or another in the foreseeable future.

Lone Star Mojo is a Blues/Rock band out of Wichita Falls Texas. Five musicians with decades of experience between them. All contributing their unique style to this album of NOS {new old songs}. From heart and soul rock and blues to quirky off beat humorous numbers, Lone Star Mojo crafts a niche in todays musical landscape. The band is not perfect and a little rough around the edges. This is what makes these tunes stand out. They are real and sincere. Listening to these songs over a period of time will grow on you. Crank up the volume and indulge your musical senses. We would like to announce the retirement of our great friend and brother Scotty Biggs. He is a fantastic guitar/singer/songwriter. He did play some slide on our new album A Shot Of The Blues. He will be missed  but he just can't do the roadwork anymore. We will continue on as a four piece outfit to support this album.
