​De nieuwste release in de ‘Destination’ serie brengt ons naar de voor velen onbereikbare exotische droombestemming Bermuda. Dit paradijselijke oord inspireerde ook songschrijvers en filmmakers. Bermuda is gekend door zijn subtropische en tropische klimaten en kleurrijke koraalriffen, kortom de ideale plek waar wonderen en dromen werkelijkheid worden. Geen wonder dat Bermuda een inspiratiebron was voor songschrijvers, zoals blijkt uit de 25 songs op deze compilatie. Je mag je dan ook verwachten aan lieflijke melodieën op tropische exotische ritmes, zoals Latijns-Amerikaanse ritmes, calypso, rhumba, mambo, chachacha en zelfs een beetje rock-‘n-roll en hillbilly. De dromerige lyrics nemen je in gedachte mee naar zonovergoten goudgele stranden en helder blauw water.
Prominent aanwezig op dit album zijn de uit de eilanden komende The Talbot Brothers, ook gekend als The Talbot Brothers Of Bermuda. Een eerste maal brengen ze je reeds in vakantiestemming met het lieflijke ‘Sunset In Bermuda’. Later komen ze nog een zestal keren terug met o.a. de lichte calypso op ‘Bermuda’s Still Paradise’. Ook vocale groepen bezochten op een muzikale manier Bermuda. Zo zijn er The Imperials met het wondermooi ‘Bermuda Wonderful’. Zij worden gevolgd door The Del Vikings die doo-wopgewijs naar ‘Down In Bermuda’ reizen. Eerder lichtvoetig en poppy klinkt Ruth Wallis’ ‘Letter From Bermuda’. Hillbilly boppend werkt Marlon ‘Madman’ Mitchell zich even later door ‘Bermuda Shorts’, waarmee hij meteen de ‘wat lange korte broek’ onder de aandacht brengt. Dat kledingstuk is tevens het onderwerp voor het rockende ‘Bermudas’ van Big Jay Mercer with Joe Anderson and The Rovers. The Delroys bezingen ‘Bermuda Shorts’ dan weer op een rockende doo-wop manier. ‘Betty In Bermudas’ van The Dovells is een eerder prettig gestoorde song met een vrolijk Farfisa orgeltje. Voor een zomers vrolijk instrumentaaltje kan je dan weer terecht bij ‘Queen Of The Bermudas’ van David Dee and The Dons.
Met een beetje hulp van haar vader schreef de toen 16 jaar oude Cynthia Strother het nummer ‘Bermuda’. Hier krijg je de song in maar liefst 6 versies, waardoor het nummer telkens via een andere muzikaal genre benaderd wordt.
Reisleider van dienst is Roland H. Rumtreiber. Hij loodst je op het 20 pagina’s tellende booklet door de zomers klinkende tracks.
Tips voor een ontspannende avond….! Zet die strandstoel in desnoods in de woonkamer, zorg dat er een kleine hoeveelheid zand zich tussen jouw tenen bevindt, open die parasol, zet je zonnebril op, verwen jezelf met een heerlijke cocktail en…….steek ‘Destination Bermuda’ in jouw cd speler, ontspan en geniet. Wedden dat je dit voor herhaling vatbaar is?

The latest release in the ‘Destination’ series takes us to the exotic dream destination Bermuda, unattainable for many. This paradise also inspired songwriters and filmmakers. Bermuda is known for its subtropical and tropical climates and colorful coral reefs, in short, the ideal place where wonders and dreams become reality. No wonder Bermuda was a source of inspiration for songwriters, as is evident from the 25 songs on this compilation. You can expect sweet melodies on tropical exotic rhythms, such as Latin American rhythms, calypso, rhumba, mambo, chachacha and even a bit of rock-‘n-roll and hillbilly. The dreamy lyrics take you in your mind to sun-drenched golden beaches and clear blue water.
Prominently present on this album are the from the islands’ The Talbot Brothers, also known as The Talbot Brothers Of Bermuda. For the first time, they already put you in a holiday mood with the sweet ‘Sunset In Bermuda’. Later they return six more times with, among others, the light calypso on ‘Bermuda’s Still Paradise’. Vocal groups also visited Bermuda in a musical way. For example, there are The Imperials with the wonderfully beautiful ‘Bermuda Wonderful’. They are followed by The Del Vikings who travel doo-wop-style to ‘Down In Bermuda’. Ruth Wallis’ ‘Letter From Bermuda’ sounds rather light-footed and poppy. Hillbilly bopping, Marlon ‘Madman’ Mitchell works his way through ‘Bermuda Shorts’ a little later, with which he immediately draws attention to the ‘somewhat long shorts’. That piece of clothing is also the subject of the rocking ‘Bermudas’ by Big Jay Mercer with Joe Anderson and The Rovers. The Delroys sing about ‘Bermuda Shorts’ in a rocking doo-wop way. ‘Betty In Bermudas’ by The Dovells is a rather pleasantly crazy song with a cheerful Farfisa organ. For a cheerful summer instrumental, you can go to ‘Queen Of The Bermudas’ by David Dee and The Dons.
With a little help from her father, the then 16-year-old Cynthia Strother wrote the song ‘Bermuda’. Here you get the song in no less than 6 versions, so that the song is approached through a different musical genre each time.
