‘Love In The Jungle’ is het derde album met erotisch getinte songs in de ‘Destination Lust’ serie. Eerder verschenen reeds het niet verder gespecifieerde ‘Destination Lust’ en ‘Chicksville U.S.A.!’, terwijl het recente volume focust op de jungleliefde. De 26 historische ‘lust songs’ stammen uit de periode 1951-1965.
Over het hoe en waarom van de ‘Destination Lust’ serie dienen we ons eventjes terug in de tijd te plaatsen. In de eerste decennia naar de Tweede Wereldoorlog was het maatschappelijk ‘not done’ om in het openbaar over erotiek en sexualiteit te praten, laat staan over het tentoonstellen ervan. Achter gesloten deuren gingen echter alle remmen los, omdat ‘liefde’ contrasteerde met de ervaringen die oorlog en vernieling hadden teweeggebracht. Vreemd is het zeker niet dat ook artiesten in ‘liefde’ en ‘lust’ inspiratie vonden. Dat het hier niet alleen mannen betrof, maakt deze compilatie duidelijk. Zo sieren ook dames als de Duitse Hildegard Knef (hier Hildegarde Neff) met het smooth jazzy klinkend ‘My Heart Belongs To Daddy’, Sallie Blair met een uitermate zwoele versie van ‘Fever’, actrice Lola Albright met het mierzoete ‘Candy’, Carol Gray en Linda Laurie met ‘Ooh, What A Lover’ dit album. En dan is er ook nog Christine Jorgensen, geboren als George William Jorgensen Jr. en meteen de eerste transgender. Zij is van de partij met ‘Nervous Jervis’. Laura Leslie neemt dan weer maar een miniem deel van het vocale werk in op ‘Crazy Girl’ waar het grootste deel van de zang voor rekening komt van de vocale groep The Counterpoints.
De cd start echter met een legendarische rhythm & blues in ‘Sexy Ways’ van The Midnighters.
Ook het Kinsey Report bood inspiratie. Dr. Alfred Kinsey publiceerde in 1948 en 1953 twee publicaties over het menselijke seksuele gedrag. Deze publicaties doorbraken de taboes en misvattingen rond seksualiteit. Big Duke Henderson en zijn orkest en Stomp Gordon hebben het hierover in respectievelijk ‘Hey Dr. Kinsey’ en de jazzy rhythm & blues ‘What’s Her Winsy Dr. Kinsey’.
Een beetje absurd klinkt dan weer ‘Frantic Love’ van Frank Motley & His Crew, met vocaal werk, als je het zo kan noemen, van Lee Vernon.
Voor een Oosters sfeertje zorgen Bob Hooks & The Kool Kats in ‘Exotic Betty’. Liefhebbers van country zullen zeker gecharmeerd worden door ’38-24-35’ van Sheb Wooley.
Instrumentale songs die de burleske sfeer versterken komen van Big Jay McNeely en ‘Strip Tease Swing’, Dave Appell & The Applejacks met de titeltrack, ‘Walkin’ And Strippin’’ en ‘Strip Poker’ van Ann Corio Presents Sonny Lester & His Orchestra en ‘Black And Tan Fantasy’ van David Rose en zijn orkest. Een andere leuke instrumental en hier voor de eerste maal op cd komt er met ‘Take It Off’ van The Genteels.
Wie kan het beter over de mannelijke instincten dan Elvis Presley. Dat zijn stem hiervoor het ideale instrument is, laat hij horen in ‘Animal Instinct’, nummer uit de soundtrack van zijn film ‘Harum Scarum’.
Tot slot, naast knappe foto' s en illustraties krijg je in het 15 pagina's tellende booklet alle info betreffende de artiesten en de tracks.
Ook ‘Love In The Jungle’ het derde volume in de ‘Destination Lust’ serie heeft weer heel wat leuks te bieden en ondertussen geniet van…….de liefde!

‘Love In The Jungle’ is the third album with erotic songs in the ‘Destination Lust’ series. The unspecified ‘Destination Lust’ and ‘Chicksville U.S.A.!’ were previously released, while the recent volume focuses on jungle love. The 26 historical ‘lust songs’ date from the period 1951-1965.
To understand the how and why of the ‘Destination Lust’ series, we need to go back in time for a moment. In the first decades after the Second World War, it was socially ‘not done’ to talk about eroticism and sexuality in public, let alone to exhibit it. Behind closed doors, however, all inhibitions were released, because ‘love’ contrasted with the experiences that war and destruction had brought about. It is certainly not strange that artists also found inspiration in ‘love’ and ‘lust’. This compilation makes it clear that this did not only concern men. Ladies such as the German Hildegard Knef (here Hildegarde Neff) also grace this album with the smooth jazzy sounding ‘My Heart Belongs To Daddy’, Sallie Blair with an extremely sultry version of ‘Fever’, actress Lola Albright with the sugary sweet ‘Candy’, Carol Gray and Linda Laurie with ‘Ooh, What A Lover’. And there is also Christine Jorgensen, born as George William Jorgensen Jr. and immediately the first transgender. She is part of the party with ‘Nervous Jervis’. Laura Leslie only takes a minimal part of the vocal work on ‘Crazy Girl’ where the vocal group The Counterpoints is responsible for most of the singing.
However, the CD starts with a legendary rhythm & blues in ‘Sexy Ways’ by The Midnighters.
The Kinsey Report also provided inspiration. Dr. Alfred Kinsey published two publications on human sexual behavior in 1948 and 1953. These publications broke the taboos and misconceptions surrounding sexuality. Big Duke Henderson and his orchestra and Stomp Gordon discuss this in ‘Hey Dr. Kinsey’ and the jazzy rhythm & blues ‘What’s Her Winsy Dr. Kinsey’ respectively.
‘Frantic Love’ by Frank Motley & His Crew sounds a bit absurd, with vocal work, if you can call it so, by Lee Vernon.
Bob Hooks & The Kool Kats provide an oriental atmosphere in ‘Exotic Betty’. Country lovers will certainly be charmed by ’38-24-35’ by Sheb Wooley.
Instrumental songs that reinforce the burlesque atmosphere come from Big Jay McNeely and ‘Strip Tease Swing’, Dave Appell & The Applejacks with the title track, ‘Walkin’ And Strippin’’ and ‘Strip Poker’ by Ann Corio Presents Sonny Lester & His Orchestra and ‘Black And Tan Fantasy’ by David Rose and his orchestra. Another nice instrumental and here for the first time on CD comes with ‘Take It Off’ by The Genteels.
Who can talk about the male instincts better than Elvis Presley. That his voice is the ideal instrument for this, he shows in ‘Animal Instinct’, a song from the soundtrack of his film ‘Harum Scarum’.
