Big Dave & The Dutchmen

Winner German Quarterly Critics Choice Award

The self-titled debut album by Belgian-Dutch blues band Big Dave & The Dutchmen, released this spring, is the winner of the German Quarterly Critics Choice Award 3.2025 / Bestenliste 3.2025 in the Blues category of the renowned ‘Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik’ (German Record Critics' Award). The record has defeated a series of illustrious names and is now on the highly coveted shortlist of four albums from which the annual committee of the 160-member Association of German Music Journalists and Critics will select The Blues Album of 2025.

As a reminder, here’s the introduction we included at the release: “the album was recorded in just two days at the Rabbit Field Studio with Stef Kamil Carlens (Moondog Jr., Zita Swoon) in Antwerp-Hoboken.

In contrast to the ‘same old same old’ blues, this album offers a fresh and unique mixed bag, blending fifties Chicago blues with a twist, gospel, swing, and swamp pop. Sometimes thunderous, other times intimate, but always sung and played with soul and swing. This beautifully designed album, featuring mostly original songs, is available on 180-gram vinyl, cd and digital services.”

David ‘Big Dave’ Reniers: vocals & harmonica
Mischa den Haring: guitar
Roel Spanjers: piano & Hammond organ
Dusty Ciggaar: bass & guitar
Darryl Ciggaar: drums & percussion
