Hi-res and standard digital versions are available now. These reissues continue Bluesville’s mission to celebrate the roots of American music and honor the artists who helped shape modern blues and soul. Since its launch in 2024, the imprint has drawn from the deep catalogs of iconic labels including Stax, Prestige, Vanguard, Vee-Jay, Rounder, and Riverside, pairing timeless recordings with premium reissues and rich editorial content. Furry Lewis – Back on My Feet Again A key figure in the 1960s blues revival, Furry Lewis rose from obscurity after nearly three decades away from music. Originally recorded at Sun Studios in Memphis and produced by Scotty Moore (Elvis Presley’s guitarist), Back on My Feet Again captures Lewis in a raw, intimate setting—just vocals and guitar—showcasing his signature fingerpicking and bottleneck slide style. The album revisits early classics like “John Henry” and “Big Chief Blues,” blends traditional numbers such as “Shake ’Em on Down,” and introduces newer material, including the reflective title track. Critics hailed Lewis’ return; AllMusic praised his voice as “as good as ever” and his technique “still dazzling.” Rediscovered by musicologist Sam Charters, Lewis went on to enjoy a late-career renaissance—playing major festivals, opening for The Rolling Stones and Leon Russell, and inspiring the Joni Mitchell track “Furry Sings the Blues.” Memphis Slim – At the Gate of Horn One of blues’ most prolific and versatile performers, Memphis Slim (Peter Chatman) was a towering figure in postwar R&B. With more than 500 recordings to his name, his catalog includes enduring hits like “Mother Earth,” “Messin’ Around,” and “Nobody Loves Me” (better known as “Every Day I Have the Blues”). Though named for the famed Chicago folk venue, At the Gate of Horn was recorded in a studio setting for Vee-Jay Records in 1959. The album features updated versions of Slim’s biggest hits alongside standouts like “Slim’s Blues,” “Gotta Find My Baby,” and the debut of “Steppin’ Out,” later made famous by Eric Clapton. Guitarist Matt “Guitar” Murphy, Slim’s longtime collaborator (and future Blues Brothers co-star), joins on this tight, swinging set. In his liner notes, Studs Terkel wrote: “A man is telling you of his heart and soul. Here is the beauty of this album.” Memphis Slim at the Gate of Horn Tracklist (Vinyl)
