Forty Below Records is excited to share the news of signing the iconic blues artist Charlie Musselwhite. On January 10th, Charlie will released "Storm Warning," the lead single from his highly anticipated album set to debut this Spring. Charlie Musselwhite stands as an American icon whose rich story weaves through the Delta, Chicago Blues, and Memphis Soul traditions. For nearly six decades, he has traveled the highways of these musical landscapes, captivating audiences across the globe. A prolific songwriter, Charlie crafts compelling, organic narratives imbued with profound emotional depth at their core. Among his generation’s harmonica players, Musselwhite is uniquely qualified to inherit the legacy of the greats who came before him. His music embodies the raw, brooding essence of Mississippi mud while soaring with the uplifting clarity of California’s blue skies. In a world where the term “legendary” is often overused, Charlie is the real deal—a blues harp player, singer, songwriter, and guitarist who has truly earned his place as a master of classic American vernacular music. The upcoming project was recorded at Kid Andersen’s Greaseland Studio in San Jose, California, marking the first time Charlie has recorded with his long-time touring band. The lineup includes guitarist Matt Stubbs (of GA-20), drummer June Core (known for his work with Robert Lockwood Jr.), bassist Randy Burmudes (James Cotton), and Kid Andersen, who has been a recurring collaborator. The chemistry within the band is evident from the first note. “We finished a gig at The Iridium in New York City and flew straight to California to record,” Charlie recalls, his excitement evident. The lead single, “Storm Warning,” is a testament to Charlie’s creativity and vision. Reflecting on its origins, Musselwhite shares, “The beat came from an old Gospel tune, and it kept circling in my mind until I found the melody and lyrics that brought it to life.” The track is a powerhouse of hypnotic grooves, soulful vocals, and ferocious harmonica riffs, capturing the essence of a blues master at his finest.
