Dave Specter stands as one of Chicago’s most distinguished guitarists, celebrated internationally for his mastery of blues, jazz, and roots music. Since launching his career in 1985, Specter has been a fixture at premier venues and major festivals across the United States and has brought his music to audiences in 19 countries worldwide.

Before forming his own band in 1989, Specter toured extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe with blues legends including Son Seals, The Legendary Blues Band, Hubert Sumlin, Sam Lay, and Steve Freund. Over the years, he has performed or recorded with an extraordinary roster of iconic artists such as Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, Otis Rush, Jimmy Rogers, Robert Jr. Lockwood, Jimmy Johnson, Jack McDuff, Johnny Adams, Snooky Pryor, Kim Wilson, Tad Robinson, John Primer, Johnny Littlejohn, B.B. Odom, Mighty Joe Young, Magic Slim, Lonnie Brooks, Ronnie Earl, Otis Clay, Floyd McDaniel, Pinetop Perkins, and Jorma Kaukonen of Hot Tuna and Jefferson Airplane.

A prolific recording artist, Specter appears on more than 50 albums and DVDs as a guitarist, bandleader, and producer, including 14 releases as a leader or co-leader for Delmark Records. His acclaimed double album Six String Soul: 30 Years on Delmark was released in 2021, followed by Live at SPACE in June 2025, both available on CD and LP.

Specter’s guitar work is featured on the 2023 Grammy-nominated children’s album Into The Little Blue House by Wendy and DB. He is also featured on numerous compilation albums alongside B.B. King, Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, T-Bone Walker, Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, and Mike Bloomfield.

In recognition of his contributions to the genre, Dave Specter was inducted into the Chicago Blues Hall of Fame in 2018.
