Dekker Drops New Song ‘Change The Chord’

Change The Chord - the song title contains a brilliant metaphor: music as emotional salvation. Changing harmony becomes the key to emotional repair - uplifting yet grounded in very human fear and fatigue. The key themes are renewal, possibility, and reconciliation.

There are a couple of noticeable differences that we haven’t heard from Dekker before, which are good things. The first is the switch from acoustic to a "heavier" electric guitar and the song’s odd meter. The second difference is Stefan Wittich’s hypnotic beat, with a slightly off-center feel, giving it a lazy, dreamy sway. Of course, the usual Dekker characteristics are still there, like the catchy melodies and Brookln Dekker’s trademark voice.

Change The Chord demonstrates that the new album Neither Up Nor Down (September 26, 2025) may show a side of Dekker that we haven’t seen before, a side that should have everyone buzzing with excitement and anticipation.
Dekker continues working with his long-time collaborator Stefan Wittich (drummer/co-producer) and enlisting Zach Hanson (Bon Iver, The Staves, Whitney) in Wisconsin for mixing and mastering.

ABOUT DEKKER
Brookln Dekker grew up in Midwest America and after 5 years of marriage to his English wife, and the other half of the pair’s indie-folk duo Rue Royale, the couple picked up and moved to Nottingham, UK.  Extensive touring of the European continent followed from 2008 to 2014 before pregnancy news put a pause on Rue Royale and Brookln found himself making the record We Share Phenomena with old friend and critically lauded Berlin-based pianist Lambert. This whetted his appetite for writing and performing again which led to a final Rue Royal record In Parallel (2018) before branching out to begin his journey into the land of Dekker in 2019.
To date Dekker has released three albums: Slow Reveal: Chapter One (2020), I Won’t Be Your Foe (2022) and Future Ghosts (2024). His music has amassed a global live audience, over 70 million streams, and had support from BBC Radio 2, 3 and 6.
