 Eric Jerardi will release his new studio album, The Game, on Oct. 30 via Alternator Records/Niche Records The album's lead single, "Setting Sun," is available now, with additional singles set to arrive every five weeks leading up to the album's release. The Game reunites Jerardi with producer Michael James, who previously mixed the singer-songwriter's 2019 album Occupied. James' résumé includes work with Robben Ford, Edwin McCain, New Radicals and Sammy Hagar. The album also features returning Muscle Shoals backing vocalists Cindy and Marie, as well as contributions from James and film composer Eric Colvin. The 12-song collection grew out of an ambitious songwriting challenge. A close friend tasked Jerardi with writing one song a week for 12 consecutive weeks, supplying a new phrase every Wednesday that had to be incorporated verbatim into each composition. Missed deadlines came with financial penalties, while repeated misses meant elimination from the challenge. The result is one of Jerardi's most personal and emotionally revealing albums to date. "One More Setting Sun" was inspired by the death of his best friend from pancreatic cancer, "Hard Being Here" reflects on the loss of his brother in 1988, and "A Man Ain't a Man" was written after the passing of his father. Other songs found the veteran artist stepping outside his autobiographical comfort zone by writing from fictional perspectives and exploring new creative territory. "I've always written pretty autobiographically," Jerardi says. "This process forced me out of my habits. Some songs came from grief. Some came from mistakes I've made. Some came from characters I never expected to write. The point wasn't to make everything perfect. The point was to tell the truth before I could talk myself out of it." Since 1997, Jerardi has released 10 nationally distributed albums. His previous album, Occupied, was produced by David Z and recorded with the renowned Muscle Shoals rhythm section. Away from the stage, Jerardi owns Jerardi's Little Store in Dayton, Ohio, where fans can purchase merchandise and a curated selection of wines.
