GRAMMY-winning guitarist Tommy Emmanuel announced his new album Living In The Light, out October 10. Recorded and mixed with producer Vance Powell (Jack White, Chris Stapleton, Phish), Living in the Light is a virtuosic blend of acoustic pop, jazz, classical, and roots music delivered by one of the modern era’s most accomplished and versatile guitarists. The announcement arrives alongside the official video for the propulsive debut single “Scarlett’s World,” dedicated to Emmanuel’s granddaughter. Watch the Video for Tommy Emmanuel’s “Scarlett’s World” Tommy Emmanuel’s new album Living in the Light radiates joy, wonder, and fearless creativity. Recorded mostly in just one or two takes, the project captures the immediacy and brilliance of a musician who has spent a lifetime chasing inspiration. The result is intoxicating: dazzling solo instrumentals mixed with songs where Emmanuel’s warm, soulful vocals add an extra layer of depth and vulnerability. “There are elements of rockabilly, blues, even traditional African music woven throughout,” Emmanuel says. “I’ve traveled the world, and all those sounds filter into my soul and come out in my own unique style.” One standout track is “Scarlett,” a heartfelt dedication to his granddaughter and her journey through life. “I tried to write a theme that felt like it could have come from the 80s,” Emmanuel explains. “But I also wanted to give a little nod to Scarlett Johansson—I’m a big fan of hers, too.” For more than six decades, Emmanuel has been redefining what’s possible on the acoustic guitar. He first began touring at age six in Australia with his family band, and by his teens he was already one of the country’s most in-demand session players. By his twenties, he was performing on chart-topping hits and touring with major acts like Air Supply and Men at Work. Inspired by his hero Chet Atkins—who later became a close friend, collaborator, and mentor—Emmanuel launched a solo career in 1979 that would make him a star at home and abroad. Since then, he has headlined iconic venues like Carnegie Hall and the Sydney Opera House, shared the stage with Eric Clapton and John Denver, won a GRAMMY Award, performed for billions at the Sydney Olympics, and collaborated with legends including Les Paul, Mark Knopfler, Joe Walsh, and Richard Thompson. Praised by The New York Times as a “prodigy” and hailed by NPR’s World Café as “one of the best acoustic guitarists in the world,” Emmanuel was also personally honored by Atkins with the rare title of Certified Guitar Player, a distinction shared by only four other musicians. In recent years, Emmanuel has continued pushing boundaries, collaborating with a new generation of artists like Jason Isbell, Molly Tuttle, and Billy Strings on his acclaimed Accomplice One and Accomplice Two albums. But with Living in the Light, he returns to his roots as a writer and storyteller. “After those collaborations, I felt the songs just pouring out of me,” he says. Now celebrating his 70th birthday, Emmanuel is more adventurous than ever. “The older I get, the more risks I take, and the more fun I have,” he reflects. “When young people come to my shows and realize it’s okay to be different—that music and self-expression are limitless—that’s what it’s all about for me.” Tracklisting: 1.
