Joanne Shaw Taylor Rings In the Season with New Single “Irish Christmas in New York”

British blues-rock standout Joanne Shaw Taylor welcomes the holidays with the release of her new festive single, “Irish Christmas In New York,” available today via Journeyman Records. Arriving just in time for the season, the track is a warm, nostalgic tribute to a Christmas spent unexpectedly in New York City—and the strangers who quickly became family.

The song was inspired by a real-life holiday detour. “My travel plans home to London for Christmas one year got canceled, so I ended up going to New York City to spend the holidays with my best friend, who was also unable to travel home to MI,” Joanne recalls. “We went to an old Irish pub on Christmas Eve in the Village, and what was meant to be a quick drink ended up with us spending two days there. We’ve always called it our Irish Christmas in New York, and I thought writing a Christmas song would be a nice tribute to a lovely memory and the kind people who made us feel at home when we couldn’t be.”

Set against images of snowy sidewalks, bustling bars, and the melancholic tug of being far from home, “Irish Christmas In New York” captures the unexpected camaraderie that can define the holidays. Taylor delivers the story with evocative lines like, “There’s whiskey and laughter and hope and good cheer, so let’s raise the glass to another fine year,” paired with the winking truth that in an Irish pub, “There’s Guinness and wine and maybe a fight.” The result is a charming, heartfelt blend of sentiment and spontaneity—an ode to a night that could never be planned and will never be forgotten.

The new single follows a prolific period for Taylor, whose recent album Black & Gold earned widespread acclaim. Classic Rock hailed it as “a 9/10,” Powerplay Magazine praised its “pop appeal and smoothness,” Guitarist Magazine noted it “reinforces Joanne’s place in the firmament of today’s brightest stars,” and American Blues Scene described it as “a deeply personal experience, showcasing the depth of Joanne’s artistry.”
Black & Gold is available now.

The release also caps one of Taylor’s busiest touring years yet, including U.S. spring dates, major summer festival appearances, and ongoing fall performances across the U.S. and Europe. She will kick off 2026 with a major UK and European headline tour beginning January 25 in Edinburgh, followed by stops in Blackpool, Southend, Antwerp, Munich, Paris, and more. Taylor then returns to the United States in Spring 2026 for a newly announced headline tour, bringing her powerhouse vocals and fiery guitar work to stages across the Midwest, Northeast, Southeast, and Florida.
