The enduring legacy of John Mayall, widely regarded as the godfather of British blues, will be celebrated with the release of Guitar Heroes: The Decca Years 1965–1967 on October 9. Available as a four-LP all-analogue (AAA) vinyl box set and a deluxe four-SACD edition, the collection revisits one of the most influential periods in blues and rock history.

The box set brings together four landmark Bluesbreakers albums: John Mayall Plays John Mayall (Live at Klooks Kleek) (1965), Blues Breakers with Eric Clapton (1966), A Hard Road (1967), and Crusade (1967). These classic recordings chronicle the remarkable succession of legendary guitarists Eric Clapton, Peter Green, and Mick Taylor, each of whom sharpened their craft with Mayall before going on to form or join iconic bands including Cream, Fleetwood Mac, and The Rolling Stones.

Together, the albums document a defining era in British blues, capturing how Mayall and the Bluesbreakers transformed the raw energy of American electric blues into a distinctly British sound that laid the foundation for the blues-rock explosion of the late 1960s.

Both editions include newly commissioned liner notes by acclaimed music historian Harry Shapiro, who explores the evolution of the Bluesbreakers, the contributions of Clapton, Green, and Taylor, and the band's lasting impact on generations of musicians.

For audiophiles, the vinyl edition has been newly mastered at Abbey Road Studios using a fully analogue signal chain sourced directly from the original Decca master tapes, preserving the warmth and authenticity of the original recordings without digital intervention.

The vinyl and SACD box sets also feature a 40-page hardcover book containing an expanded historical essay, rare insights into the Bluesbreakers' extraordinary guitar lineage, and a specially commissioned visual family tree illustrating the connections between Mayall's band and legendary acts such as Cream, Fleetwood Mac, and The Rolling Stones.
