John Mayall’s ‘Second Generation’ Box Set – 30 Live Concerts 1968-1993

​Madfish and the John Mayall Estate are thrilled to announce the upcoming release of a special box set celebrating John Mayall’s legendary career, arriving on March 7, 2025.

This new collection brings fans a treasure trove of previously unreleased live recordings, featuring both soundboard and audience captures from iconic performances with various line-ups. Among the featured legends are guitarists Mick Taylor, Harvey Mandel, Walter Trout, and Coco Montoya; drumming powerhouses Keef Hartley, Mike Gardner, and Colin Allen; and bassists like Larry Taylor, John McVie, and Steve Thompson. Also highlighted are the incredible horn talents of Blue Mitchell, Johnny Almond, Clifford Solomon, and more.

Showcasing Mayall’s worldwide influence and his unique, timeless sound, the box set includes 30 standout performances from cities like New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Paris, Milan, and London, spanning a 25-year period. This expansive collection aligns with Mayall’s well-earned induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and was personally endorsed by the two-time Grammy nominee before his passing this year. The Mayall estate has also contributed two rare, privately recorded shows from Gaz Mayall’s celebrated club, Gaz’s Rockin’ Blues, in 1981 and 1982. The 1981 show features Alexis Korner, and the 1982 recording captures a unique family moment with Mayall performing alongside his sons Gaz and Ben.

Additionally, the box set includes a beautifully crafted hardback book filled with unseen photos and a commemorative art print, offering fans an intimate look at Mayall’s enduring legacy.

​John Mayall’s career is nothing short of legendary, with an influence that extended well beyond the blues genre. Inspired by iconic American blues artists, his journey began while he was at art school, performing with fellow student Peter Ward and other local bands. Heeding advice to join London’s blossoming British Blues scene, Mayall quickly found a receptive audience eager for his authentic blues sound. Clubs like the Marquee, The Flamingo, The Fillmore, The Scene, and Klooks Kleek became key stages where Mayall’s unique style and evolving line-ups took root and flourished.

His reputation skyrocketed as he welcomed talented new artists into his Bluesbreakers line-ups, launching careers that would shape rock history. Mayall’s Bluesbreakers served as a training ground for future legends, including Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce, John McVie, Mick Taylor, and Peter Green, securing his title as the “Godfather of British Blues” for his unwavering support of emerging talent.
