Jonathon “Boogie” Long Brings Louisiana Blues-Rock Heat with Upcoming Album Courage In The Chaos,

Out November 14
Baton Rouge guitarist, singer, and songwriter Jonathon “Boogie” Long has announced his forthcoming album Courage In The Chaos, set for release November 14th on Myrical Media. The 12-track collection marks the most personal and musically adventurous statement of his career, weaving together decades of songs and experiences that reflect his journey as one of Louisiana’s fiercest blues-rock voices.

Alongside the announcement, Long has shared the album’s lead single, “A Fool Can See,” accompanied by a new music video. Built around a hook inspired by fool’s gold—something that glitters until you get close—the track sets the tone for the album’s raw honesty. “I kept hearing this idea of fool’s gold how something shines until you get close. The rest wrote itself,” says Long. Riding a swaggering groove, the lyrics highlight the subtle tells that reveal deeper truths—about relationships, promises, and the stories we cling to. His guitar does much of the talking, bending notes with the same tension as words left unsaid, before finally spilling them out.

Music has been Long’s first language since childhood. Raised in Baton Rouge in a deeply musical family—his parents leading gospel services, his grandfather preaching sermons with a guitar in hand—he was urged to “pick it” before he could fully grasp the weight of the words around him. By the age of six, Long was performing “Amazing Grace” in churches, nursing homes, and even prisons, watching firsthand the transformative power of music. “Music is a universal language,” he reflects. “It can make a mad person calm or a calm person crazy.”

Long’s formative years were shaped by guidance from mentor Mark Wascom, who taught him to trust his ear and feel over theory, and by jamming with Louisiana blues elders like Kenny Neal and Larry Garner. By eleven, he was playing his first paying gigs; by fourteen, he left school to tour with Henry Turner Jr. The lessons came quickly: travel light, listen hard, and take care of yourself.

Years on the road forged both speed and patience. Performing alongside New Orleans soul legend Luther Kent forced him to shed the “hot-shot” approach. “I tried to be the hot-shot,” Long admits, “then Luther’s band slapped me back to reality.” Big-band JazzFest sets sharpened his sense of space and dynamics, while his 2011 Guitar Center King of the Blues win brought national recognition, managers, and the usual mix of opportunities and challenges.

Now, with Courage In The Chaos, Jonathon “Boogie” Long distills those lessons into a fearless and deeply personal record an album that proves why he remains one of Louisiana’s most vital blues-rock voices.
