JP Soars & Anne Harris release the first single “Viper" fom their highly anticipated collaborative album 'Gypsy Blue Revue'

Album release date: may 29, 2026

JP Soars & Anne Harris will release their highly anticipated collaborative album, Gypsy Blue Revue, on May 29, 2026 via Forty Below Records. The first single, “Viper,” is available now, with additional tracks “Jessie Mae” and “Goin’ Down to South Carolina” set to follow.

For more than two decades, JP Soars has built his reputation the old-fashioned way — onstage, night after night. A dynamic guitarist, expressive vocalist, and fearless songwriter, Soars fuses blues with rock & roll, Latin rhythms, country, and gypsy jazz, guided by feel rather than format. That expansive musical vision comes fully into focus on Gypsy Blue Revue, a powerful collaboration with acclaimed Chicago-based violinist, vocalist, and songwriter Anne Harris.

Their partnership began in 2019 after crossing paths on the festival circuit and sharing the stage at the Big Blues Bender in Las Vegas. The chemistry was undeniable. What started as a one-off performance quickly evolved into a compelling creative alliance rooted in Southern soul, roadhouse blues, rock, and adventurous folk influences.

Recorded live at a rural Ohio studio without click tracks or overdubs, Gypsy Blue Revue captures the raw interplay and spontaneous energy that define their live shows. “We approached it exactly like a show,” says Soars. “All in one room, playing together. We just wanted it to sound like us.” The album also features Soars’ longtime rhythm section: drummer Chris Peet and bassist Cleveland Frederick.

The singles showcase both artists’ depth and range. “Jessie Mae” draws from Soars’ real-life encounter with Hill Country blues legend Jessie Mae Hemphill, transforming the experience into a vivid tribute to resilience and authenticity. “Goin’ Down to South Carolina” grew organically from a spontaneous studio riff into a groove-driven standout steeped in vintage guitar tones. Meanwhile, “Viper” delivers a sly cautionary tale of romantic misadventure, propelled by gritty swagger and razor-sharp musicianship.

Born in California, raised in Arkansas, and now based in South Florida, Soars’ commitment to the blues was solidified at age 18 after meeting B.B. King backstage — a pivotal moment that set his path. Since then, he has released six acclaimed albums, won the Blues Foundation’s International Blues Challenge and the Albert King Guitar Award, earned multiple Blues Music Award nominations, and placed releases in the Billboard Blues Top 10.

Anne Harris brings her own distinguished résumé to the project. A classically trained violinist and accomplished singer-songwriter, she has collaborated with Keb' Mo' and Taj Mahal, released six studio albums, and toured internationally — including a decade-long collaboration with Blues Music Award winner Otis Taylor. Her artistry bridges pop-rock, folk, country, and roots traditions, adding texture, nuance, and emotional depth to the collaboration.

Gypsy Blue Revue seamlessly unites classic influences with contemporary fire.

“This is a music lover’s record,” says Soars. “There’s everything from Caribbean grooves to country songs to Django Reinhardt influences. If music moves me, I don’t care about the genre — and I think our audiences love that diversity.”
