Kara Grainger Returns to the Roots of Rock & Soul with Her Fifth Studio Album, Recorded at Memphis’ Iconic Royal Studios

Release date: October 17, 2025

Alongside legendary influences such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, and Led Zeppelin, Australian-born, Nashville-based singer, songwriter, and acclaimed guitarist Kara Grainger has always drawn deep inspiration from the rich musical legacy of Memphis, Tennessee — the city that gave rise to the sounds of blues, soul, and rock & roll in the 1960s and ’70s.

For her highly anticipated fifth full-length solo album, Grainger journeyed to the very heart of that history — Royal Studios in Memphis — to capture its unmistakable spirit. She teamed up with Grammy-winning producer Lawrence “Boo” Mitchell, recording alongside the legendary Hi Rhythm Section, whose soulful grooves helped define countless classic records.

Founded by Mitchell’s grandfather, the late Willie Mitchell — the celebrated bandleader, producer, and co-founder of Hi Records — Royal Studios has been home to generations of musical greats. From a young age, Boo Mitchell was immersed in the creative energy of artists such as Al Green, Ann Peebles, KC & The Sunshine Band, Michael McDonald, and The Doobie Brothers.

Over the course of his distinguished career, Mitchell has worked with an extraordinary roster of artists including Buddy Guy, Keith Richards, John Mayer, The Neville Brothers, Robert Plant, U2, Melissa Etheridge, and North Mississippi Allstars, among many others. In 2016, he earned the GRAMMY Award for Record of the Year for his production work on Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ global smash “Uptown Funk.”

With this new project, Kara Grainger channels the timeless Memphis sound through her own unique blend of soulful songwriting and masterful guitar work — honoring the past while forging her own musical path.
