Keb’ Mo’ Shares Hopeful New Single “One Day Away” From Upcoming Album The Breakdown

Five-time GRAMMY winner Keb’ Mo’ has released “One Day Away,” the latest single from his forthcoming album The Breakdown, due out August 21 via Concord Records.

Written during a deeply personal chapter in the blues legend’s life, the heartfelt acoustic track reflects on hope, resilience and the belief that brighter days can arrive when least expected. It follows the recent releases of “Fussing and Fighting” and “Hand It Over,” featuring the Soweto Gospel Choir.

“This was the last song written for the album, and it holds a special meaning for me,” Keb’ Mo’ said. “It’s a reminder that life can change in an instant—that even the hardest moments can turn around, and what seems impossible today can become a blessing tomorrow.”

The Breakdown is Keb’ Mo’s first solo album since undergoing life-saving open-heart surgery in 2024 after falling ill while on tour with Slash. Recorded at his home studio outside Nashville during his recovery, the 10-track collection also came in the wake of the end of his nearly 20-year marriage.

The stripped-back album features only Keb’ Mo’s voice and guitar, with select vocal appearances by the Soweto Gospel Choir and gospel group Take 6. The intimate approach allows the songs to focus on themes of change, healing, faith and gratitude.

“I had to go through some difficult experiences to get these songs,” Keb’ Mo’ said. “But I learned a lot looking back on my life and my relationships.”

Set for release on August 21, The Breakdown finds the acclaimed singer-songwriter delivering one of the most personal and reflective records of his celebrated career.
