On his first album in five years, ‘Strange Things Happening,’ internationally renowned guitarist and producer Kid Ramos shares a musical message of faith, joined by featured vocalists Brian Templeton (The Radio Kings) and his son, Johnny Ramos Chris Lizotte, renowned singer/songwriter and worship leader, has produced a soulful session featuring a stellar lineup of musicians. Dave Limina, celebrated for his work on the Hammond organ with Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters, joins international touring bassist Mike Turturro and acclaimed drummer Stephen Hodges, whose credits include James Harman, John Hammond, and Tom Waits. The album blends gospel and blues in a heartfelt fusion, offering a spiritual reprieve with songs popularized by legends like Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Mahalia Jackson, The Soul Stirrers, and Bob Dylan, alongside original compositions by Brian Templeton. Kid Ramos, a native of Orange County, California, brings over forty years of blues excellence to the project. A member of iconic groups such as the James Harman Band, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, The Mannish Boys, Los Fabulocos, and The Proven Ones, Ramos received the Orange County Music Awards Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014 and boasts 14 Blues Music Award nominations. He also produced Floyd Dixon’s final album, Time Brings About A Change, and its accompanying documentary. Featured vocalist and harmonicist Brian Templeton, a cornerstone of the Boston music scene for over four decades, lends his unmistakable voice to the album. Known for his work with The Radio Kings and collaborations with Jerry Portnoy, Sonny Rhodes, James Cotton, and Otis Grand, Templeton has toured extensively across Europe, Canada, and the U.S. His independent label, Straight Street Records, highlights his distinctive approach to Christian music. Joining the lineup is Kid Ramos’ son, Johnny Ramos, a Southern California-based singer/songwriter and guitarist inspired by the blues and rock ‘n’ roll of the 1950s and ’60s. The album’s inception traces back to a conversation between Ramos and his longtime friend, Pastor James Rasmussen. “James told me about the missionary work he was supporting overseas, but he’d lost confidence in where the funds were going,” Ramos shares. “He decided to support musicians playing gospel music instead and asked if I wanted to make a gospel record. I immediately called Brian Templeton, and he was all in. We recorded the album live in just two days with an incredible lineup, including my son Johnny, Stephen Hodges, Mike Turturro, and the phenomenal organist and pianist Dave Limina, recommended by Brian. Meeting producer Chris Lizotte was another highlight—our shared connections led to a great friendship. This album is deeply personal, and I hope it resonates with listeners.” Sallie Bengtson, president of Nola Blue Records, describes the album as a unique fusion of genres. “To hear gospel music presented with a West Coast Blues vibe is such a compelling and fresh approach, blending two styles rooted in shared influences. Having worked with Kid Ramos and Brian Templeton on previous projects, it’s an honor to collaborate with them again on this heartfelt record.” Tracks: 01. Strange Things Happening (feat.
