Laurence Jones Releases New Single “One Life” Ahead of Intimate Acoustic Album On My Own

Award-winning guitarist and songwriter Laurence Jones releases “One Life,” the second single from his forthcoming solo acoustic album On My Own, set for release on January 23rd, 2026. The new single follows the success of the album’s title track, hailed by Music News as “a damn fine listen” and praised by Rock and Blues Muse as “a stripped-back, beautiful track that reveals not just Jones’ compelling musical talents but a genuine spirit.”

On My Own marks Jones’ most personal project to date, created in the midst of his ongoing battle with Crohn’s Disease. The album sees him returning to his roots, pairing raw storytelling with an intimate acoustic sound.

“This is a song I wrote in a time of need,” says Jones. “It almost came to me for healing. A lot of this album is about my battles and challenges living with this invisible and life-threatening disease.”

“One Life” reflects that duality of struggle and perseverance an inner dialogue between doubt and determination. “It’s about wanting to give up, but having that voice inside that says, come on, you can do this,” Jones explains. “The verse and chorus are those two voices fighting it out.”

Musically, the track draws on a roots-driven blues sound, influenced by Jones’ recent move to Nottingham and a live performance by Seasick Steve. “I wanted that same swampy groove and swagger,” he says. The stripped-back arrangement leaves space for a gritty slide guitar to lead, paying homage to traditional blues recordings.
The accompanying video, directed by long-time collaborator Helen (Cuckoo Films), was filmed close to Jones’ Nottingham home during a period of ill health. The shoot became deeply personal and largely spontaneous.

“I was having a severe flare-up at the time,” Jones shares. “We filmed around my neighbourhood — places I see every day. The graveyard in the video isn’t morbid to me. My grandad used to take me there to visit my gran, and he’d tell stories about their life. He always said, ‘You only get one life — live it to the full.’ That inspired the song.”

The video also captured unplanned, heartfelt moments from the local community, along with symbolic imagery that unfolded naturally during filming. “Nothing was staged. It all just happened. It’s one of the most meaningful shoots I’ve ever been part of.”

“One Life” is released via RON RECORDS, Jones’ own label, created in loving memory of his late grandad and best friend.
