Charlie Musselwhite Announces New Album Look Out Highway, Out May 16th Blues legend Charlie Musselwhite is thrilled to announce the release of his highly anticipated new album, Look Out Highway, arriving May 16th via Forty Below Records. The title track, premiered by Rock & Blues Muse, is now available on all streaming platforms. Fans can pre-save the album now. What happens when you blend Delta, Chicago, and Memphis blues? You get Charlie Musselwhite—an American blues icon who has been crafting timeless songs for nearly six decades. A prolific songwriter, Musselwhite delivers raw, authentic storytelling with emotional depth at its core. Discussing how the title track came to be, Charlie told Rock & Blues Muse, “I didn’t pick Look Out Highway—it picked me when I wrote it. Many years ago, I was walking past a church in Memphis and heard an incredible beat in one of their songs. That rhythm stuck with me for years until the lyrics finally came to me.” No other harmonica player of his generation embodies the legacy of blues harp masters quite like Musselwhite. His music is as deep and rich as Mississippi mud yet as uplifting as California’s blue skies. In an era where the word "legendary" is often overused, Musselwhite stands as a true master of American roots music. Look Out Highway was recorded at Kid Andersen's Greaseland Studio in San Jose, California, and Clarksdale Sound Stage in Mississippi. For the first time, Charlie recorded with his longtime touring band: guitarist Matt Stubbs (GA-20), drummer June Core (Robert Lockwood Jr.), and bassist Randy Bermudes (James Cotton), with Andersen joining in as well. Their chemistry is evident from the very first notes. “We wrapped up a gig at The Iridium in New York City and flew straight to California to record,” Charlie recalls. The result? A powerhouse blues album that captures the essence of a living legend at his best. Charlie Musselwhite: A Lifetime of Blues and a Legacy That Endures With an incredible 13 Grammy nominations, including for his last album Mississippi Son, and an astounding 33 Blues Music Awards, Charlie Musselwhite stands as one of the most celebrated blues musicians of all time. His 2014 collaboration with Ben Harper, Get Up!, earned him a Grammy win, and in 2010, he was rightfully inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame. Musselwhite’s career skyrocketed soon after he arrived in Chicago in the early 1960s, becoming a key figure in the city’s blues renaissance alongside The Paul Butterfield Blues Band. Both were true disciples of legends like Little Walter, Muddy Waters, and Howlin’ Wolf. In 1967, at just 22 years old, he released his debut album, Stand Back!, which received widespread critical acclaim. That same year, on a whim, Musselwhite moved to San Francisco. His contemporaries, including Butterfield and Mike Bloomfield, soon followed, immersing themselves in the counterculture scene surrounding the iconic Fillmore West, where they were embraced as authentic torchbearers of the blues. Over the decades, Musselwhite has collaborated with an extraordinary range of artists, including Ben Harper, Cyndi Lauper, Eddie Vedder, Tom Waits, Bonnie Raitt, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Gov't Mule, INXS, Mickey Hart, Japan's Kodo Drummers, George Thorogood, Eliades Ochoa, Cat Stevens, and Elvin Bishop. His close friend and best man at his wedding? None other than blues legend John Lee Hooker. Most recently, in 2023, Musselwhite appeared in Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon as Alvin Reynolds. From Mississippi to Memphis, Chicago, and California, Musselwhite’s sixty-year journey is a testament to the timeless power of the blues. With 20 albums, relentless touring, and a profound mastery of both voice and harmonica, his music continues to grow richer with age. Now, Musselwhite has found a new home with Los Angeles-based Forty Below Records, led by Eric Corne. “Working with an artist of Charlie’s caliber is an honor and privilege,” says Corne. “He’s one of the most iconic blues musicians of our time, and we look forward to taking his legacy to the next level.” Track Listing: Look Out Highway Sad Eyes Storm Warning Baby Won't You Please Help Me Hip Shakin' Mama Highway 61 Ready For Times To Get Better Ramblin' Is My Game Blue Lounge Ghosts in Memphis Open Road Website: charliemusselwhite.com Opmerkingen zijn gesloten.
