Little Feat – criminally underrated pioneering rock band – announced the release of their grooving new single “Midnight Flight”
featuring on forthcoming new album,
Strike Up The Band, set for release May 9 via Hot Tomato.

Little Feat’s latest single, “Midnight Flight,” is classic Feat through and through — driven by a signature syncopated groove, an irresistibly catchy horn line, tender, love-struck lyrics, and a searing guitar solo from Scott Sharrard. Altogether, it's a standout addition to the ever-evolving Little Feat songbook.

“I wrote this tune during the winter of 2020, not long after I joined the band,” says Sharrard. “Looking back, it feels like a blend of Freddie King’s sonic textures with Leon Russell’s flavor, all filtered through the vibe we captured on Let It Roll, Little Feat’s ‘comeback’ album. It’s got that boogie feel — the kind that gets people on their feet.”

After nearly six decades, rock legends Little Feat are still charging full steam ahead. Their new album Strike Up The Band proves they’re not just coasting on legacy — they’re pushing boundaries, evolving, and still sounding fresh.

Formed in 1969, Little Feat carved a cult following with their unmistakable blend of New Orleans R&B, country, funk, jazz, and rock. While mainstream success often hovered just out of reach, songs like “Dixie Chicken” and “Fat Man in the Bathtub” became iconic, influencing everyone from Bonnie Raitt and The Rolling Stones to modern artists like The 1975’s Matt Healy.
Even during breaks, members stayed busy — collaborating with legends like Dylan, Emmylou Harris, and Pink Floyd. Today’s lineup includes founding keyboardist Bill Payne, longtime members Fred Tackett, Kenny Gradney, and Sam Clayton, plus fresh energy from Scott Sharrard and Tony Leone.

After 2024’s Grammy-nominated Sam’s Place, the band returned to original material, tapping into sessions with Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter and working with producer Vance Powell. Tracks like “4 Days of Heaven, 3 Days of Work” and the groove-heavy “Too High To Cut My Hair” show Feat at their most inventive and alive.

With the buzz of a Grammy nod, a new festival, and a national tour, Little Feat is far from finished. Their sound keeps evolving, but the soul of the band remains unshakable. At a time when most bands settle into nostalgia, Little Feat keeps daring forward — and that, in itself, is quite the feat.
