Marc Broussard Announces First Original Blues Album Chance Worth Taking

Release date: april 17, 2026

Powerhouse soul singer Marc Broussard steps boldly into a new chapter with the release of his first full album of original blues material, Chance Worth Taking,

The 14-track collection is produced by Joe Bonamassa, Josh Smith, and Calvin Turner. Bonamassa lends his signature guitar work to 10 tracks and co-writes three songs with Broussard. Smith appears on four tracks, contributing both guitar and co-writing credits, while Turner co-writes 10 songs and plays a key role in shaping the album’s lush string and horn arrangements.

“The songwriting felt like a fever dream of creativity and inspiration,” Broussard shares. “Joe and his band are among the best musicians in the world, and everything came together seamlessly. It was an incredible week with an amazing group of people.”

The album’s lead singles, “No More” and “Fever,” are available now. “No More” unfolds as a cinematic blues ballad, elevated by sweeping orchestration and Bonamassa’s expressive guitar work. In contrast, “Fever” delivers a modern blues-rock punch, driven by funk-inflected rhythms and searing lead guitar from Smith.

While Chance Worth Taking marks a clear stylistic turn toward blues, Broussard’s unmistakable “bayou soul” voice remains at the heart of the project. The album seamlessly weaves traditional blues with soul, blues-rock, funk, and New Orleans-inspired grooves.

The project began when Turner proposed creating an album of original blues material, sending Broussard a batch of instrumental tracks as a starting point. Broussard quickly penned lyrics over several intense days before refining the material in the studio alongside Bonamassa.

“I would wake up at 6:00 a.m. and write until 11:00 p.m. I’d be in the studio sweating like a madman,” Broussard recalls.
Though rooted in soul, Broussard embraced the opportunity to deepen his connection to the blues. “I’m still more versed in soul music than in blues, but I’m getting an education in the genre and its history from Joe and Josh,” he explains. “When we got into the studio, Joe wasn’t fully convinced we had a blues album, so he added to the songs we already had, and we wrote three others together. In the end, we got to the promised land.”

The album spans a dynamic range of styles, from big-band-inspired blues and horn-driven blues-rock to intimate ballads. Several tracks spotlight inspired improvisational interplay between Bonamassa, Smith, and legendary keyboardist Reese Wynans. The record closes with “Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler,” co-written with Trombone Shorty, adding a celebratory New Orleans flourish.

Longtime fans will also find echoes of Broussard’s soulful roots in traditional ballads like the title track and “Sweet Love,” both enriched with gospel influences and layered harmonies.
Looking ahead to the release, Broussard says, “Man, I’m so excited about it all. It’s time for me to move into my bluesman phase. At this stage of my life, I’m all about it.”
