Michele D’Amour and the Love Dealers Channel Classic Soul on What It’s All About

Release date: June 12, 2026

On What It’s All About, the latest release from Michele D’Amour and the Love Dealers, the group fully embraces the rich traditions of blues and classic R&B while delivering a sound that feels vibrant and contemporary. Drawing inspiration from icons such as Etta James, Jr. Walker, Martha and the Vandellas, The Isley Brothers, and Al Green, the album carries a warm, vintage sensibility that remains fresh and immediate throughout.

The record features seven original compositions written by Michele D’Amour, alongside a dynamic reimagining of a classic Jr. Walker track. Together, the songs form a cohesive collection that moves seamlessly between upbeat, dancefloor-ready grooves and deeply introspective moments.

Opening with the title track, “What It’s All About,” the band sets the tone with bold confidence and undeniable swagger, channeling the spirit of Etta James’ Chess Records era. Its infectious “yeah yeah” refrain has already earned it the nickname “the Yeah Yeah song.” From there, “Runaround” taps into the emotional urgency of classic Motown, as D’Amour delivers a soulful call-out to a reluctant lover. The energy continues with a spirited take on “Pucker Up Buttercup,” showcasing the band’s musical chemistry and reverence for the genre.

The album’s emotional core emerges in tracks like “Pushing Away Love,” a slow-burning blues ballad exploring vulnerability and self-sabotage, and “Tough Breaks and Bad Decisions,” which offers a candid reflection on life’s harsher realities. “The Visitor” introduces a darker, atmospheric edge, building tension through a haunting narrative, while “Broken People” provides a moment of tenderness, honoring resilience with empathy and grit. Closing track “Let Go of These Blues” delivers a message of release and renewal, leaving listeners with a sense of hope after hardship.

What It’s All About stands as a powerful and emotionally resonant statement, blending timeless soul influences with modern storytelling. The album balances heartbreak, resilience, and confidence, capturing the essence of its title.

Adding to its authenticity, the album was recorded live off the studio floor in a single afternoon, with the band tracking rhythm, solos, and final vocals together in real time. The result is a recording that showcases the group’s exceptional chemistry and musicianship, offering an experience that feels as immediate and electric as a live performance.
