Miguel Kertsman Releases Paradoxes, A Progressive Rock Odyssey

Release Date – October 3rd, 2025
Brazilian-American composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Miguel Kertsman unveils his bold new concept album, Paradoxes  a synthesizer-driven journey that bridges the worlds of progressive rock, classical traditions, and Brazilian musical roots.

Known for a career spanning contemporary classical, jazz, world music, and beyond, Kertsman has collaborated with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, guitarist John Williams, opera star Angelika Kirchschlager, and producer Dan the Automator. His music has appeared everywhere from Olympic ceremonies to video game soundtracks. But with Paradoxes, Kertsman circles back to the music that first ignited his imagination: the progressive rock of his youth.

“I’ve always been fascinated by paradoxes in science, astrophysics, math, and in human behavior,” says Kertsman. “Growing up, I was surrounded by classical music, jazz, and the vibrant sounds of Brazil. Later, moving to New York exposed me to countless new musical languages. But as a child, it was the progressive rock bands of the time that truly captivated me.”

Recorded live with vintage analog instruments — Minimoogs, Mellotron, Prophet 10 — Paradoxes recalls the expansive creativity of Yes, Pink Floyd, Patrick Moraz, and Rick Wakeman, while firmly asserting Kertsman’s own voice. Each track embraces long-form storytelling, blending virtuosic instrumentals with lyrical depth and thematic ambition.

Highlights include “Red Blue Sky” (with the soaring vocals of Drew Sarich) and “i-Clock”, which offer wry reflections on political polarization tempered by empathy. “Liquid Fire” captures the anxious energy of life on “Spaceship Earth,” while “Atemporal Ocean” (featuring Saiphe) connects back to themes Kertsman first explored in his 1982 debut, Música, Mito, e Mistério  his earliest foray into prog rock in Brazil.

With Paradoxes, Miguel Kertsman delivers more than an album he presents a daring musical statement. For fans of warm, vintage synths, fearless virtuosity, and progressive rock that pushes boundaries, Paradoxes is an essential listen this fall.
