Miss Emily Announces New Album The Medicine Out November 7 on Gypsy Soul Records JUNO-nominated and Maple Blues Award–winning artist Miss Emily returns with her most powerful statement yet. Her upcoming album, The Medicine—produced by Grammy winner Colin Linden (Keb’ Mo’, Bob Dylan, Gregg Allman, Lucinda Williams)—arrives November 7 via Gypsy Soul Records and is available to pre-order now. Backed by an all-star band drawn from the worlds of Dylan and Keb’ Mo’, Miss Emily pairs her commanding, soulful voice with songs of resilience, truth, and hope. The album’s lead single, “Stand Together, Band Together,” is out now on all streaming platforms. A stirring anthem of unity, it reflects Miss Emily’s conviction that music can heal and connect. “It embraces the idea that my struggle is your struggle, your struggle is my struggle, and none of us gets through this world alone,” she says. Songs that heal and inspire Blending soul, blues, and Americana, The Medicine tackles hard realities without losing sight of hope. Miss Emily addresses domestic violence, the challenges of life on the road as a single mother, and the darker corners of human experience—yet chooses light and community over bitterness. “That inclination towards joyful truth was cultivated over more than two decades of playing night after night,” she explains. “I realised I didn’t want anger to be a prominent theme. I wanted to celebrate community. I wanted to record music that made people feel better.” A record of depth and power Producer Colin Linden calls her “a tremendously passionate and supple singer, with a deep well of emotion. She is a truth teller.” That honesty runs through both new material such as “New York Minute” and fresh interpretations of classics including “Ruby Baby,” “The Wanderer,” and a stripped-back “Abraham, Martin and John.” The album also features a 600-word foreword by Eric Clapton, who describes Miss Emily as “one of a kind… a genius singer, writer, musician, and healer.” A voice like velvet thunderOver the years, Miss Emily has emerged as one of Canada’s most vital voices, with three Maple Blues Awards, a JUNO nomination, and praise from the likes of Rob Baker (The Tragically Hip) and Gene Simmons (KISS). As Brad Wheeler of The Globe and Mail memorably put it: “She’s got a voice on her like big velvet thunder.” With The Medicine, that voice takes on its truest role—to heal, to uplift, and to remind us of the transformative power of music and community.
