'Move On Down The Line' A Solo Acoustic Statement by Michael van Merwyk

​With Move On Down The Line, Michael van Merwyk presents an acoustic solo album that captivates through its immediacy and clarity. Each track was recorded live in a single take, without overdubs, in a guitar shop renowned for its specialization in resonator guitars.

A range of National Reso-Phonic guitars was used for the sessions, spanning rare vintage instruments from the 1930s to contemporary models. Van Merwyk also returns to his longtime main guitar, “Heart,” a Continental CS-N from the 1990s, which features prominently on the album.

The album’s transparent, unfiltered sound was captured using just two microphones from Ear Trumpet Labs, a company highly respected in the acoustic music world. This minimalist approach results in an intimate, stripped-down listening experience—evoking the feeling of a private concert unfolding in the listener’s living room.

Move On Down The Line is evenly split between original compositions and carefully chosen interpretations of blues and roots classics. The album features songs by Barbecue Bob, Hank Williams, Charley Patton, Sleepy John Estes, Norman Beaker, and Al Ferrier. The title track, “Move On Down The Line,” was written by Jesse Fuller.
