Nashville native Maisy Owen has confirmed the release of her debut album Dark On A Sunny Day

Still just 23, Owen has spent much of her life immersed in music and songwriting. She began on the viola at nine before switching to guitar, where she developed a distinctive fingerpicking style shaped by influences like Nick Drake, Bert Jansch, Mazzy Star and David Olney. Songwriting runs in the family too her father, Gwil Owen, is an Academy Award-nominated writer.

Described as blending “musical truth” with stirring vocals, Owen’s sound sits at the core of the eight tracks that make up Dark On A Sunny Day. The record was produced by Robin Eaton (Jill Sobule) and leans more toward intimate, folk-leaning textures than the polished sounds often associated with Nashville. Across the album, she gravitates toward melancholic melodies and shadowy, poetic imagery, drawing comparisons to the likes of Vashti Bunyan and Anne Briggs.

Her debut single, “My Youth Is All For You,” was released on 7” and offers an early glimpse into her aesthetic. The accompanying video reflects her fascination with abandoned spaces, adding a visual dimension to her quietly haunting sound.
