Nola Blue Records announces Frank Bey compilation album 'Peace' celebrates the musical legacy of GRAMMY nominee, Frank Bey

Nola Blue Records is honored to announce the release of Peace, a poignant 11-track compilation celebrating the music of the late Frank Bey, set for January 17, 2025. The album begins with “That’s What Love Will Make You Do,” a lively Little Milton tune recorded by Bey with The Anthony Paule Soul Orchestra at Greaseland Studios in San Jose, CA, in 2015. This track, previously unreleased, is followed by eight selections showcasing Bey’s collaborations with his longtime bandleader and friend of over 25 years, Jeff Monjack, and the late Kevin Frieson of West Virginia. The album concludes with Bey’s beloved rendition of John Lennon’s iconic anthem, “Imagine.” Also featured is “One Thing Every Day,” from Bey’s GRAMMY-nominated final album, All My Dues Are Paid.

Born in Millen, GA, Frank Bey a GRAMMY nominee and seven-time Blues Music Award contender began his singing journey at age four, performing gospel music with his brother and two cousins in their group, “The Rising Sons,” which toured across the South. At 17, he joined the Otis Redding Revue as an opening act, honing his ability to captivate audiences. In the early 1970s, Bey fronted the radical funk group The Moorish Vanguard. However, a failed record deal with James Brown led to the group’s collapse and deeply impacted Bey, prompting him to step away from music for 17 years. During this time, he relocated to Philadelphia, where he owned a club called Smith’s. It was here that he met Jeff Monjack, who played in a jazz fusion group and was later invited to help Bey rebuild his career and form a new band.

Reflecting on their partnership, Monjack shares: “For over 25 years, every show with Frank Bey was pure joy. His connection to the spiritual essence of music was extraordinary. Frank’s voice carried the weight of his ancestors, reaching deep into the hearts of everyone who heard him. There were no wrong notes just pure music. Leading his band was an honor, and every performance was a blast. Regardless of what challenges his body faced, the moment the downbeat hit, Frank transformed, taking us all to that special place.”
“Peace was Frank’s vision, his mission, and his legacy,” says Sallie Bengtson, president of Nola Blue Records. “This compilation, Peace, will be released on what would have been Frank’s birthday, January 17, 2025. It’s a lasting tribute to ‘The Southern Gentleman of the Blues.’ A portion of the album proceeds will benefit his widow, Toni Bey.”
