Omnivore Recordings Announces Definitive Edition of Nina Simone’s Final Studio Album A Single Woman: The Complete Elektra Recordings

Available November 7 on CD and Double-LP

Omnivore Recordings proudly announces the release of A Single Woman: The Complete Elektra Recordings, the definitive version of Nina Simone’s final studio album, arriving November 7 on CD and Double-LP. This expanded edition features 11 bonus tracks four previously unreleased bringing together the complete Elektra sessions for the first time.

Nina Simone first captivated the world in 1959 with her landmark debut Little Girl Blue. Over the course of five decades, she redefined music with her powerful voice, fearless artistry, and boundary-breaking performances that continue to inspire generations.

Following her triumphant 1992 concert at Carnegie Hall, Simone was approached by Elektra A&R executive Michael Alago, who encouraged her return to the studio. Modeled after two of her inspirations Frank Sinatra’s A Man Alone and Billie Holiday’s Lady In Satin A Single Woman was recorded with full orchestral arrangements under the direction of producer Andre Fischer. Backed by a 50-piece orchestra, Simone delivered a deeply personal and revelatory collection of songs centered on love and longing, interpreted with her singular passion and artistry.

While the original 1993 release featured ten tracks, Simone recorded additional material, including covers of Bob Dylan, Prince, The Beatles, and Bob Marley. These remarkable performances suggested a possible follow-up, but A Single Woman would ultimately be her final studio album before her passing in 2003.

A reissue in 2006 added seven bonus tracks. Now, Omnivore Recordings presents the most complete edition ever assembled: 21 tracks in total, newly remastered, and accompanied by liner notes from renowned music historian David Nathan who also shares personal reflections from his decades-long relationship with Dr. Simone.

With A Single Woman: The Complete Elektra Recordings, listeners can experience Nina Simone’s final studio sessions in their fullest, most comprehensive form an essential chapter in the legacy of one of music’s greatest voices.
