Paul Boddy with EP "Soul Gone Blu’"From Regional Blues to a Breakthrough Life on the regional blues circuit is rarely easy. Most artists play small clubs for modest crowds while juggling day jobs to survive. For Doylestown, Pennsylvania–based Paul Boddy, however, persistence and talent finally paid off. Boddy an accomplished singer, guitarist, and slide guitarist leads the SlideWinder Blues Band, a high-energy group that has been a local favorite for more than a decade. Their big break came in 2022, when they won the Jersey Shore Jazz & Blues Foundation’s International Blues Challenge. Among the judges was two-time Grammy-winning producer Marc Swersky, who soon told Boddy, “We need to make a record together.” That partnership led to Soul Gone Blu’, a six-song EP inspired by the soul and blues Boddy grew up with in England and the U.S. during the 1960s and ’70s. Recorded in Asbury Park, New Jersey, the project features a top-tier session band and special guests including Sonny Landreth, Early Times, Mikey Jr., and members of the Cinelli Brothers. The EP includes fresh takes on classics such as Freddie King’s “One Hundred Years,” Ike and Tina Turner’s “Cussin’, Cryin’ and Carryin’ On,” and “Need Your Love So Bad,” highlighted by Boddy’s expressive vocals and fiery slide guitar. Born into a musical family in London and later relocating to the U.S., Boddy built his career slowly through blues jams and regional stages before forming the SlideWinder Blues Band. Today, the group performs widely across the Northeast and is working toward a full new album in 2026 proof that even in the tough world of regional blues, dedication can still lead to a breakthrough.
