Peter Frampton Returns with First New Rock Album in 16 Years, Carry the Light Out May 15 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee and Grammy Award-winning guitarist Peter Frampton returns with Carry the Light, his first album of all-new rock material in 16 years, set for release May 15 via UMe. The highly anticipated collection was co-written and co-produced with his son Julian Frampton, marking their first full creative collaboration. The album also features an all-star lineup of guest artists, including Sheryl Crow, Bill Evans, H.E.R., Tom Morello, Graham Nash and Benmont Tench. “The Carry the Light album is my first new music in 16 years, and it’s been one of the most rewarding projects of my career,” Frampton shares. “Working alongside my son Julian—writing and producing together—made it especially meaningful. I have a feeling it’s the first of many.” Ahead of the release, Frampton has unveiled the single “Buried Treasure,” featuring Benmont Tench of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. The track serves as a heartfelt tribute to the late Tom Petty, drawing lyrical inspiration entirely from Petty’s song titles and nodding to his long-running SiriusXM show of the same name. Frampton personally invited Tench to contribute, bringing an added layer of authenticity to the homage. At its core, Carry the Light is a reflection on the present moment—shaped by recent challenges, personal growth and enduring connections. The album’s title embodies a sense of purpose, with “the light” symbolizing wisdom to be carried forward. Deeply personal in scope, the project is also a testament to the bond between father and son. Engineer and co-producer Chuck Ainlay praises the result: “These songs are incredibly poignant, and Peter’s voice has evolved in a way that truly conveys the emotion behind them. This may be his finest album yet.” Frampton is joined throughout the record by a distinguished group of collaborators: Sheryl Crow appears on “Breaking the Mold,” Bill Evans contributes saxophone to “Can You Take Me There” and “Tinderbox,” H.E.R. shares guitar duties on the instrumental “Islamorada,” Tom Morello brings his signature edge to “Lions at the Gate,” Graham Nash adds harmonies to “I’m Sorry Elle,” and Benmont Tench lends keyboards to “Buried Treasure.” Each artist contributes to a project that celebrates collaboration and the enduring spirit of rock music. Carry the Light will be available in multiple formats, including CD, 180-gram yellow vinyl and digital editions in stereo, hi-resolution audio and Dolby Atmos®. A limited-edition numbered vinyl pressing with exclusive packaging will also be released via Peter Frampton’s official store and select retailers. The album arrives on the heels of Frampton’s recent celebration of the 50th anniversary of his landmark live album Frampton Comes Alive!, one of the best-selling live records of all time. With a career spanning more than six decades, Frampton continues to solidify his legacy as one of rock’s most influential guitarists, while Carry the Light signals a powerful and inspired new chapter.
