Robert Finley Shares New Gospel-Inspired Single “Holy Ghost Party”

North Louisiana soulman Robert Finley has released his uplifting new single, “Holy Ghost Party,” a gospel-infused celebration from his forthcoming album Hallelujah! Don’t Let The Devil Fool Ya, arriving October 10 via Easy Eye Sound. Physical pre-orders and digital pre-saves are available now.

Produced by longtime collaborator Dan Auerbach at Easy Eye Sound Studios in Nashville, the album marks Finley’s fourth release for the label. This time, the celebrated singer, songwriter, and guitarist brings the sacred fire of gospel into his signature blend of blues, soul, and R&B. The collection features highlights like the first single, “Helping Hand,” praised by FLOOD for its “simmering ’70s psych-funk guitar melodies, hand percussion, and stirring vocals.” The track is accompanied by an official music video directed by Tim Hardiman (John Anderson, Blake Shelton), now streaming on YouTube.

“Making a gospel record was the first thing I ever wanted to do,” Finley says. “I’ve had at least one gospel song on each album, and I even did a gospel song on America’s Got Talent. One of the judges said he didn’t know if it was the right crowd for that, but some of those people were in tears.”
With Hallelujah! Don’t Let The Devil Fool Ya, Finley fulfills a lifelong dream—delivering a record that celebrates faith, resilience, and the transcendent power of music.

Like most Robert Finley sessions, Hallelujah! Don’t Let The Devil Fool Ya came together with lightning speed. Joined by an all-star band featuring producer Dan Auerbach and guitarist Barrie Cadogan (Little Barrie, Primal Scream, The The), drummer Malcolm Catto (The Heliocentrics, Madlib, DJ Shadow), bassist Tommy Brenneck, keyboardist Ray Jacildo, and call-and-response vocals from his daughter Christy Johnson, Finley cut the entire album in just one day. Fully improvised and performed live in the studio, the songs capture the raw spontaneity and spiritual fire at the heart of his music.

“Back in the day, Robert would play for tips and make up songs for people on the spot,” recalls Auerbach. “That’s the spirit we brought into this session—everything off the cuff, playing, singing, and writing in the moment. It was divinely inspired creativity, because letting the spirit move him is Robert’s trademark.”

“Dan said, ‘Okay, Robert. Sing something,’” Finley adds. “And I remembered what the Good Lord said: ‘If you open your mouth, I’ll speak for you.’”

After a lifetime of hard work, Robert Finley has emerged as one of the leading voices in modern blues. Born and raised in the small town of Bernice, Louisiana, Finley spent decades honing his craft as a street performer and frontman of the gospel group Brother Finley and the Gospel Sisters before finally making his long-overdue recording debut at 62 with 2016’s Age Don’t Mean A Thing.

The album caught the ear of Easy Eye Sound founder Dan Auerbach, sparking a close creative partnership that has since produced Goin’ Platinum! (2017), the deeply personal Sharecropper’s Son (2021), and the widely celebrated Black Bayou (2023). That record — an 11-track powerhouse blending southern soul, blues, jazz, folk, and rock ’n’ roll into a raw, thunderous tribute to Finley’s Louisiana roots — drew raves across the globe. SPIN, The FADER, No Depression, American Songwriter, Paste, Uncut, and others praised its brilliance, while MOJO awarded five stars, declaring: “Black Bayou is surely the album Finley was put on Earth to create, filled with stories only he could tell.”
