Robert Plant unveils his latest musical chapter with the announcement of Saving Grace the debut album from his new band of acclaimed musicians. Set for release on September 26 via Nonesuch Records, the project emerges as what Plant calls “a song book of the lost and found,” a rich and deeply personal journey through forgotten gems and timeless traditions. The roots of Saving Grace stretch back to the quiet solitude of lockdown in the English countryside affectionately referred to by Plant as “The Shire.” Grounded for once from his globe-trotting ways, the legendary frontman found connection and creative spark in a circle of like-minded artists. The result: a fresh ensemble with deep musical chemistry and a shared love for evocative storytelling through song. Alongside Plant, Saving Grace features vocalist Suzi Dian, drummer Oli Jefferson, guitarist Tony Kelsey, multi-instrumentalist Matt Worley (banjo and strings), and cellist Barney Morse-Brown. Over the past six years, the group has evolved organically, becoming a genre-blending collective shaped as much by friendship and freedom as by musical prowess. “We laugh a lot, really. I think that suits me. I like laughing,” says Plant. “You know, I can’t find any reason to be too serious about anything. I’m not jaded. The sweetness of the whole thing... These are sweet people and they are playing out all the stuff that they could never get out before. They have become unique stylists and together they seem to have landed in a most interesting place.” Produced by Robert Plant and Saving Grace, the album was recorded between April 2019 and January 2025 across intimate studios in the Cotswolds and along the Welsh Borders. It marks a return to Plant’s Nonesuch catalog following his critically acclaimed albums lullaby and… The Ceaseless Roar (2014) and Carry Fire (2017). Saving Grace breathes new life into a carefully curated set of songs — some over a century old — originally made famous by the likes of Memphis Minnie, Blind Willie Johnson, Moby Grape’s Bob Mosley, The Low Anthem, Martha Scanlan, Sarah Siskind, and Low’s Mimi Parker and Alan Sparhawk. Spanning eras, genres, and emotional landscapes, Saving Grace stands as a testament to Plant’s ever-curious spirit and the boundless potential of musical collaboration.
