De iconische Schotse zanger-songwriter-muzikant Fish geeft dit najaar twee afscheidsshows in België tijdens zijn ‘Road To The Isles 2024-2025’-tournee: La Madeleine in Brussel op dinsdag 5 november, en een dag later in Trix Antwerpen. De euforie over het vooruitzicht om deze levende legende eindelijk weer live aan het werk te kunnen zien wordt echter wel enigszins overvleugeld door het nieuws dat dit tevens zijn definitieve afscheidstournee is… Ticketprijzen: La Madeleine Brussel: €44,- (incl. servicekosten) Trix Antwerpen: €46,- (incl. servicekosten) De voorverkoop van de tickets start overmorgen – vrijdag 23 februari - om 10:00 uur via www.fishmusic.scot en via de websites van de respectievelijke poppodia. Omdat de vijf shows in Nederland eerder deze maand in no-time uitverkochten, voegt Fish daar eenmalig drie extra concerten aan toe: PHIL Haarlem (donderdag 7 november), Muziekgebouw Eindhoven (zaterdag 9 november) en Muziekgieterij Maastricht (zondag 10 november). Fish laat weten dat er hierna geen nieuwe tourdata meer worden toegevoegd: "I was genuinely surprised that the five Dutch shows sold out so quickly. It really took me aback. Once promoters in other countries saw the demand out there, I had more offers come in from Germany and also for 2 shows in Belgium. I haven't played Belgium for many years and the chance to get shows in Brussels and Antwerp on this Farewell Tour were offers I couldn't refuse. Also, there were Dutch fans already missing out on tickets after the quick sell outs. So it made complete sense to add another couple of shows in Holland to fill the gap between the Belgian and German shows and satisfy the huge demand." "It hadn't been planned like this, but I'm not complaining and I don't think the Dutch fans in the other cities are either. There's no more shows to be added in Europe after this. Na een korte pauze van de shows op het Europese vasteland begint Fish aan de dertiendaagse Britse etappe van de tour, die start in zijn huis Haddington Corn Exchange op 19 februari 2025 en eindigt met een epische aller-, aller- allerlaatste show ooit in de Glasgow O2 Academy op zondag 9 maart 2025. Fish: “There's a great sense of circles being closed with all aspects of the tour and the album releases this year and I'm enjoying the sense of completion that it brings to this current stage in my life as I literally move on to new pastures. It's a wonderful feeling." De ‘Road to the Isles’-tour is geïnspireerd op het feit dat Fish en zijn vrouw Simone zich later dit jaar zullen terugtrekken in een boerderij die ze hebben overgenomen op een ruig eiland in de Outer Hebrides ten noordwesten van Schotland. Ze verhuizen eind dit jaar definitief naar deze Western Isles (in het Schots: Na h-Eileanan an Iar). Fish verkoopt in mei zijn voormalige opnamestudio het huis in Haddington, East Lothian, waar hij woonde sinds hij Marillion in 1988 verliet: “It's going to be sad in some ways to leave East Lothian after so many years and having written, recorded and created so much here at the Studio. All my solo albums apart from 'Vigil' were recorded in this building. It was a strange feeling recently sifting through the demo material for the 2024 'Vigil' and ‘Internal' re-releases and listening to the early versions of those songs that were written here soon after I moved to Haddington. I'll be leaving behind a lot of memories in the house and the garden where I've lived since 1988 and it will always hold a special place in my life. The croft however is a completely new adventure and one my wife and I are excitedly looking forward to.” FISH – KORTE BIO Derek William Dick uit Edinburgh, Schotland (geboren op 25 april 1958) werd bekend als zanger en songtekstschrijver Fish van de neo-progressieve rockgroep Marillion. Hiermee schreef hij in de jaren tachtig van de vorige eeuw geschiedenis, getuige het mega-succes van de albums ‘Script For A Jester’s Tear’, ‘Fugazi’, ‘Misplaced Childhood’ en ‘Clutching At Straws’. Vooral de hits ‘Kayleigh’ en ‘Lavender’, afkomstig van ‘Misplaced Childhood’ (1985), zingt iedereen nog altijd luidkeels mee. Fish’ eigen songs zijn geen lichte kost. De trotse Schot ziet zichzelf eigenlijk meer als schrijver dan als muzikant of zanger, en de songs die hij schrijft zijn niet zelden een weerslag van zijn dagelijkse observaties van de maatschappij. De wereld staat permanent in brand en leidt daardoor volgens Fish tot angst, eenzaamheid en depressies. Het is vooral ook daarom dat het werken in zijn grote tuin in Schotland hem de broodnodige rust en relativering brengt. Vandaag de dag is hij dan ook tevens een volleerd hovenier-tuinder die met het verbouwen van groente en fruit in zijn eigen levensonderhoud voorziet.
