Visionary guitarist, lap steel master, vocalist, and cinematic songwriter Selwyn Birchwood unveils the official video for “Talking Heads,” a standout track from his latest Alligator Records release, Electric Swamp Funkin’ Blues. The album—Birchwood’s fifth with the label—arrived on Friday, March 27, and is available on CD, translucent yellow vinyl LP, and across all major digital platforms.

Produced and directed by Birchwood himself, the “Talking Heads” video delivers a striking visual interpretation of the modern media landscape. “Talking Heads is a visual representation of the type of ‘news’ that we are bombarded with every day from my viewpoint,” Birchwood explains. “Truth and fact have become subjective terms auctioned to the highest bidder and broadcast to the masses.”

Electric Swamp Funkin’ Blues showcases 10 original tracks that are as imaginative as they are emotionally resonant. Entirely produced by Birchwood, the album captures a dynamic range—from the raw vulnerability of “Damaged Goods” to the timely commentary of “All Hail The Algorithm” and “Talking Heads.” Songs like “Labour Of Love” explore the complexities of parenting, while “The Struggle Is Real” emerges as a powerful anthem for contemporary life. Tracks including “What I’ve Been Accused Of,” “Soulmate,” and “Should’ve Never Gotten Out Of Bed” further cement Birchwood’s reputation as one of modern blues’ most innovative voices.

Marking his first self-produced project, Electric Swamp Funkin’ Blues stands as Birchwood’s most fully realized artistic statement to date. “Producing allowed me to really take the wheel and steer the music to the exact destinations that I wanted to go,” he says. “This album is the full realization of the sound I’ve been cultivating—balancing gritty gutbucket blues with contemporary grooves to create something rooted yet forward-looking. Sharing songs with this level of honesty helps us connect more deeply and feel less alone.”
