Robert Finley Shares the Joyful Gospel of "'I Wanna Thank You'"From Upcoming Album Hallelujah! Don't Let The Devil Fool Ya' Out Oct 10 North Louisiana singer/songwriter Robert Finley has unveiled his new gospel-fueled single, “I Wanna Thank You.” The track arrives with an official music video, directed by longtime collaborator Tim Hardiman, now streaming on YouTube. Radiant with gratitude and spirit, the song serves as a highlight from Finley’s forthcoming album, Hallelujah! Don’t Let The Devil Fool Ya, set for release on Friday, October 10 via Easy Eye Sound. Fans can pre-order physical editions and pre-save digitally starting today. “I wrote ‘I Wanna Thank You’ because without Him, there’s no way I’d be where I am today,” Finley shares. For Hardiman, the single carried a deep sense of purpose: “When I first heard ‘I Wanna Thank You,’ it struck me as such a powerful expression of gratitude. I wanted the video to feel just as meaningful, almost as if it were my last with Robert. Beyond showing what Robert is thankful for, I wanted it to honor the incredible work we’ve created together with the Easy Eye Sound family over the past five years. It’s been one hell of a journey.”
Like so many of Robert Finley’s studio sessions, the making of Hallelujah! Don’t Let The Devil Fool Ya came together with remarkable speed. With Dan Auerbach at the helm and joined by an all-star lineup — guitarist Barrie Cadogan (Little Barrie, Primal Scream, The The), drummer Malcolm Catto (The Heliocentrics, Madlib, DJ Shadow), bassist Tommy Brenneck, and keyboardist Ray Jacildo — the album was captured in a single day of spontaneous, high-energy recording. Adding a personal touch, Finley’s daughter Christy Johnson contributed soulful call-and-response vocals, amplifying the record’s spirit of immediacy and devotion. “Back in the day, when Robert played for tips, he’d ask the crowd questions and then improvise songs for them on the spot,” recalls Auerbach. “That was his method — pure, in-the-moment creation. Carrying that approach into the studio, everything improvised and off the cuff, sparked an inspired session. Letting the spirit move him is what defines Robert’s music.” Finley echoes that sentiment: “Dan was like, ‘Okay, Robert. Sing something.’ And I said, ‘It’s scripture. The good Lord said, if you open your mouth, I’ll speak for you.’” Fresh off a packed performance at Easy Eye Sound’s Fish Fry during AmericanaFest in Nashville, TN, Finley is gearing up to celebrate the release of Hallelujah! Don’t Let The Devil Fool Ya with a headline European and UK tour. The run kicks off October 4 at London’s Islington Assembly Hall, with stops in France, the Netherlands, Spain, and Lithuania.
