With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to the soulful vocalist and skilled guitarist, Toussaint McCall, who has passed away at the age of 89.
The artist originally from Delhi, Louisiana, gained prominence in the music realm during the late 1950s through his recordings with the renowned Ronn Records label. Fusing elements of blues, country, and the emerging soul genre, McCall's velvety vocals held the ability to captivate audiences with his smooth timbre. Particularly notable was his signature hit, the 1967 ballad "Nothing Takes the Place of You," which reached the top 5 on the charts.

While McCall's subsequent releases achieved more modest success, his dedication to performing persisted. He even made a notable appearance as himself in the popular 1988 film "Hairspray." Recognizing his contributions, McCall was honored with induction into the NE Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2016.

Despite his relative obscurity among contemporary soul music enthusiasts, Toussaint McCall's musical legacy speaks volumes. A listen to his music is enough to affirm his authenticity and talent. May he rest in peace.
