​JUNO-nominated and Maple Blues Award–winning artist Spencer Mackenzie returns with “Frozen Hearts,” the third single from his anticipated new studio album Empty Chairs. The single arrives on all streaming platforms Friday.

“Frozen Hearts” stands as one of the most personal and emotionally resonant songs of Mackenzie’s career. “Emerging from the depths of grief and resilience, I wrote ‘Frozen Hearts’ as a tribute honouring the victims of residential schools,” Mackenzie shares. Built on soulful vocals, searing guitar lines, and a rhythm steeped in both sorrow and defiance, the track grew into what he calls a memorial in sound a commitment to ensuring the lives lost and voices silenced are never forgotten.

​Mackenzie reflects further on the weight behind the song: “Writing ‘Frozen Hearts’ meant confronting the painful legacy of children taken from their families—children whose laughter was silenced, whose lives were cut short, whose culture and identities were stripped away. Through every chord and lyric, I tried to transform that mourning into remembrance. This song is my promise to remember them with love, respect, and truth.”

“Frozen Hearts” offers the first glimpse into the emotional depth of Empty Chairs, set for release on February 20, 2026, through Gypsy Soul Records. The album is produced by two-time JUNO-nominated producer, mixer, and engineer Ross Hayes Citrullo, known for his work with The Commoners.

Empty Chairs captures Mackenzie’s continued artistic evolution, drawing from the roots of blues history while embracing the bold, contemporary edge of modern blues-rock. The album weaves electrifying guitar work, gritty riffs, Hammond organ, soaring vocals, and a powerhouse rhythm section, all anchored by the introspective, story-driven songwriting that has become Mackenzie’s signature.
