Sunjay Announces Tenth Studio Album Split The Sheets With Bold Lead Single “Take Out Some Insurance”

Award-winning British blues and roots artist Sunjay has announced the release of his tenth studio album, Split The Sheets, alongside its powerful first single, “Take Out Some Insurance” a bold reimagining of the classic track by Jimmy Reed.

Rooted firmly in the blues yet crafted to feel powerful, modern and alive, the single sets the tone for an album that carries both weight and intent.
Speaking about the new record, Sunjay says:

“Split The Sheets is a very significant record for me. It’s my tenth album and the final covers record I’ll be making. It closes a long chapter of interpretation and learning, and it allowed me to take everything I’ve absorbed over the years and use it without restraint.
I didn’t want a polite record — I wanted something with weight, groove and emotional honesty. This album feels like a statement and a turning point.”

On the lead single, he explains:
“‘Take Out Some Insurance’ felt like the right place to begin the build-up to my new record because it allowed me to be bold. Jimmy Reed’s original has a looseness and swing that’s timeless, but I didn’t want to recreate it or soften it.
My version leans into weight, groove and tension — it’s fuller, heavier and deliberately more physical. It sets the tone for the album as a whole: respectful of the source, but unafraid to push the song into a contemporary emotional and sonic space.”

Critics have long recognised Sunjay as one of the UK’s standout talents. Iain Anderson of BBC Radio Scotland describes him as “One of the UK’s finest young Blues stars.”
RNR Magazine praises him as “A very accomplished and dynamic guitarist, with a mature stage presence and echoes of a young Ralph McTell.”

Meanwhile, Mike Harding of BBC Radio 2 calls him “One of the best young pickers and singers around.” Sunjay has previously been nominated for the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Awards, won the Wath Festival Young Performers Award, and received two nominations at the British Blues Awards.

Far from the stereotypical denim-clad, dishevelled folk and blues troubadour, Sunjay cuts a sharp figure — from perfectly groomed hair to gleaming winkle-picker boots — every inch the city slicker. Yet the moment he begins to sing and play, audiences are transported to a place where blues and country music blend seamlessly.
Polished, powerful and unmistakably authentic, Sunjay is — without doubt — the real deal.
