Swamp Dogg ‘Contemplates The Afterlife’ With New Tracks “Searching For Heaven” and “Acid Tongue”

Release date:
June 19, 2026

Cult icon and genre-defying songwriter Swamp Dogg previews his forthcoming album with a double A-sided single, pairing the original “Searching For Heaven” with a bold reinterpretation of Jenny Lewis’ “Acid Tongue.” The release arrives ahead of the album’s Juneteenth digital debut, followed by a special vinyl edition in July commemorating Swamp Dogg’s 84th birthday.

Due June 19, Swamp Dogg Contemplates The Afterlife marks the artist’s 27th album under the Swamp Dogg moniker and another milestone in a boundary-breaking career spanning more than seven decades. Born Jerry Williams Jr., he continues to defy expectations with a restless creative drive that resists nostalgia, instead charting new conceptual ground. The two-track single offers an early glimpse into the album’s expansive vision and stylistic freedom.

Released today, the virtual double A-side highlights that genre-fluid sensibility. “Searching For Heaven,” an original composition and the album’s lead track, aligns closely with its existential themes. Meanwhile, “Acid Tongue”—written by Jenny Lewis and originally released in 2008—finds new life through Swamp Dogg’s singular lens. The track was introduced to him by S-Curve Records chief Steve Greenberg, who also serves as lead producer on the upcoming album.

Reflecting on the collaboration, Swamp Dogg shares: “Jenny Lewis has become a friend of mine, so when Steve suggested I record her song ‘Acid Tongue,’ I was open-minded about the idea. She cuts to the heart of the matter—the matter being loneliness and the overall human condition. She provides more wisdom in her song than a thousand doses of LSD could ever give you—and that ain’t no bullshit.”

The album’s Juneteenth release will be digital, with a gold vinyl edition arriving in July to celebrate Swamp Dogg’s 84th birthday on July 12. He will also mark the occasion with a special live performance at Venice West on July 11.

Pressed on gold vinyl, the release carries symbolic weight for the artist. “I’ll finally have a gold album,” he jokes. While he has yet to earn a gold record under his own name, Swamp Dogg’s songwriting, production, and sampling contributions have played a role in gold-certified works by artists including Gene Pitney, Johnny Paycheck, Tracy Byrd, Freddie North, Z. Z. Hill, DMX, and MC Breed—further underscoring his enduring influence across generations of music.
