Tad Robinson makes a powerful return to Delmark Records with Soul In Blue, his first release as a leader on the label since 1998’s Last Go Round. Robinson originally debuted as a bandleader on Delmark in 1994 with One to Infinity, and over the years, he’s become a vital presence in the label’s catalog, lending his soulful vocals and tasteful, expressive harmonica playing to recordings by Dave Specter, Floyd McDaniel, Al Miller, and the Rockwell Avenue Blues Band.

Born and raised in Manhattan, Robinson moved to Chicago at 30, drawn to the city’s rich blues heritage. He quickly found a home in the Windy City’s vibrant club scene, earning a reputation for his smooth, soul-infused voice and skill on the harp. His work soon caught the attention of Delmark, launching a career that’s seen him perform across the U.S. and Europe and rack up two W.C. Handy Award nominations and eight Blues Music Award nods. Throughout it all, Robinson has remained rooted in a sound that sits confidently at the crossroads of soul and blues.

Six years after his critically acclaimed Real Street, Robinson returns with Soul In Blue—an album that proves his deep connection to the genre is as alive as ever. The record features six tracks recorded in Indianapolis with his longtime touring band and guest appearances from guitar greats Alex Schultz and Dave Specter. Four more songs were cut at Delmark’s Riverside Studio in Chicago, featuring the Delmark All-Stars: Mike Wheeler, Roosevelt Purifoy, Carlos Showers, Larry Williams, and Pooky Styx.

With a mix of original songs and standout covers of Wilson Pickett and Arthur Adams, Soul In Blue is a vibrant, heartfelt statement. Each track is steeped in the spirit of Chicago soul, elevated by Robinson’s unmistakable voice and the deep musical chemistry of his collaborators. This is soul-blues at its finest—rich in feeling, grounded in tradition, and alive with passion.
