Tangerine Records Launches Tangerine Master Series with First Vinyl Release of Ray Charles’s Come Live With Me in Over 50 Years

Founded by Ray Charles in the 1960s, Tangerine Records announces the launch of the Tangerine Master Series, a new line of restored and remastered reissues celebrating the 17× GRAMMY® Award-winning icon’s unmatched legacy. Overseen by The Ray Charles Foundation, the series will spotlight Charles’s most celebrated music alongside rare, long-unavailable titles.

The series kicks off Friday, August 22, with Come Live With Me, a 1974 blend of pop, gospel-infused soul, and ’70s crossover charm available on vinyl for the first time in more than five decades. The album has been remastered by 5× GRAMMY® Award-winning engineer Michael Graves and mastered for vinyl by acclaimed engineer Jeff Powell. Vinyl and streaming arrive August 22; CDs follow September 26.

Arranged in part by longtime collaborator Sid Feller, Come Live With Me features lush ballads like “Till There Was You” and the title track (a Top 20 AC / Top 30 R&B hit) on Side A, and R&B-driven cuts such as “Somebody” and the funk-inspired “Problems, Problems” on Side B.

In the album’s exclusive new liner notes, music journalist Marcus J. Moore (The Butterfly Effect: How Kendrick Lamar Ignited the Soul of Black America) writes: “Come Live With Me is Charles at the midpoint of reinvigoration—just him, his thoughts, and the will to ascend. Sometimes protest is simply trusting you’ll find your way, believing everything’s going to be fine.”

In the early ’60s, just one pop hit into his career—the groundbreaking What’d I Say—Ray Charles made a bold move that would reshape the music industry. Determined to secure his creative and financial independence, he negotiated an unprecedented deal granting him full ownership of his recordings and the freedom to run his own publishing company, recording studio, and business offices. From that moment on, Ray Charles answered to no one but himself.
This is where the story of Tangerine Records begins: a label created by Charles to achieve greatness entirely on his own terms, and the only authorized home for some of his most celebrated works.

The Tangerine Master Series launches August 22 with the first vinyl release in over 50 years of Charles’s 1974 crossover classic Come Live With Me. Future reissues will include:
  • Ingredients In A Recipe For Soul (1963) — Reached #2 on the Billboard 200, driven by the GRAMMY® Award-winning Top 5 hit “Busted.”
  • Love Country Style (1970) — A masterful example of Charles’s country crossover style, out of print since its original release.
  • No One Does It Like…Ray Charles! — A previously uncompiled set of singles from 1962–1965, released for the first time as a cohesive album, capturing a creatively explosive period in Charles’s career.

As an independent artist, Charles kept his A&R philosophy simple: “If I like it, I’m gonna sing it.” The result is a body of work that defies categories, rewards curiosity, and reveals as many hidden gems as it does timeless hits. Decades later, the power and consistency of his Tangerine Records output stand as proof that true artistry flourishes with complete creative freedom.
