The Breaks Drop Debut Single “Hasheesh,” And Announce Self-Titled Album

The Breaks—the powerhouse trio of Eddie Roberts (of The New Mastersounds), Stanton Moore (of Galactic), and Robert Walter (of The Greyboy Allstars)—have unveiled their debut single, “Hasheesh,” offering the first glimpse of the band’s forthcoming self-titled album, due May 1. The track is available now on all major streaming platforms.

Recorded at Marigny Studios in New Orleans, “Hasheesh” expands on the trio’s core sound with a dynamic horn section and additional percussion. Joining the session are Brad Walker (saxophone), John Michael Bradford (trumpet), Big Sam Williams (trombone), and Pedro Segundo (percussion). Together, they amplify the group’s organ trio foundation—Roberts on guitar, Moore on drums, and Walter on Hammond organ—delivering a punchy, ensemble-driven sound inspired by classic soul-jazz and boogaloo recordings of the late ’60s.

The single marks the band’s first official release since announcing their formation in December 2025. At the time, The Breaks described their sound as “rooted in the tradition of late-’60s organ trios and hard-hitting boogaloo,” while pushing the format forward with “deep-pocket rhythms, tight arrangements, and fearless improvisation.”
“Stoked on this band and psyched for y’all to hear what we’ve been up to,” Moore shared on social media.

Reflecting on the trio’s chemistry, Walter added, “Even though this is a new band, there are years of history between us. These are two of my favorite musicians and two of my closest friends. I’m also a huge fan of both Eddie and Stanton. It’s so easy and fun to play music with these people. It’s like putting on a pair of well broken-in comfortable shoes.”
