El Paso, Texas–based husband-and-wife acoustic duo The Division Men have announced their fourth album,
to be released on Germany’s Motor Music and in the U.S. via Buena Buena, arriving Friday, August 22, 2025.

Hymns and Fiery Dances features an impressive roster of collaborators, including Rafael Gayol (Leonard Cohen), Rick G. Nelson (Afghan Whigs, Twilight Singers, Polyphonic Spree, St. Vincent), Jay Reynolds (Asleep at the Wheel), Fredo Ortiz (Beastie Boys, Los Lobos), Leah Shapiro (Black Rebel Motorcycle Club), Dana Colley (Morphine), Asya Sorshneva (CocoRosie), Beto Martinez (Grupo Fantasma), Josh Marcus, Jacob Valenzuela (Calexico), Laura Scarborough, Barb Hunter (Afghan Whigs, Pigface), Eric Gorfain (Sam Phillips, Def Leppard, Queens of the Stone Age, A Perfect Circle), Peter Hayes (Black Rebel Motorcycle Club), Roscoe Beck (Leonard Cohen), and Alain Johannes (Eleven, Them Crooked Vultures, Queens of the Stone Age, PJ Harvey).

The Division Men  a Texas-bred, husband-and-wife acoustic duo — first formed in Berlin, Germany, in 2008 and are now based in El Paso, Texas. The band is comprised of founder J. Spencer Portillo (vocals, acoustic guitar) and Caroline Rippy Portillo (vocals, bass guitar). Their name reflects the concept of artists collaborating across distances, a principle rooted in their early years writing and recording in Berlin before returning home to Texas.

Caroline, born in San Antonio, Texas, performed as bassist for Tito & Tarantula from 2007 to 2012. J. Spencer Portillo, born in Los Angeles and raised in Texas, draws heavily from his upbringing, crafting lyrics that often paint atmospheric portraits of love, life, and death in a border town.

The Division Men’s sound has been described as dark, romantic, ethereal, and haunting  a signature blend that sets them apart in the acoustic landscape.
