Van Morrison Digs Deep into the Blues on new album 'Somebody Tried To Sell Me A Bridge'

Release date:
January 23, 2026

Van Morrison has announced his new album, Somebody Tried To Sell Me A Bridge, set for release on January 23rd. The record marks a bold return to the blues, featuring fresh, deeply felt interpretations of classics made famous by B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Leadbelly, and other genre-defining artists.

Following the success of his critically acclaimed album Remembering Now — which reached the Top 10 and received widespread praise — Morrison returns to the music that has long been at the core of his artistic identity. Somebody Tried To Sell Me A Bridge pays homage to the pioneers of the blues while unmistakably bearing Morrison’s own stamp, blending grit, soul, and emotional depth.

Released via Orangefield Records, the album delivers a raw and spirited blues performance, unfiltered and direct. Morrison’s unmistakable voice and phrasing bring new life to these timeless songs, resulting in a collection that feels both reverent and vividly present.

A defining element of the album is its remarkable lineup of collaborators. Morrison is joined by blues luminaries Taj Mahal, Buddy Guy, and Elvin Bishop, alongside longtime collaborator John Allair. Additional contributions come from David Hayes, Bobby Ruggerio, Mitch Woods, Anthony Paule of the Anthony Paule Soul Orchestra, and acclaimed drummer Larry Vann.

Recorded at Studio D in Sausalito, California, the album was engineered by longtime associate Jim Stern with Ben McAuley. Together, the musicians and production team deliver an album that stands as a powerful reaffirmation of Van Morrison’s lifelong connection to the blues.
