Warren Haynes Drops New Single “You Ain’t Above Me” from Upcoming Album The Whisper Sessions
GRAMMY® Award-winning vocalist, songwriter, guitar icon, producer, and Gov’t Mule frontman Warren Haynes has unveiled his new single “You Ain’t Above Me,” a soulful blues ballad about standing up for yourself. The track is the latest preview from his upcoming album The Whisper Sessions, set for release on September 12th via Fantasy Records.

The Whisper Sessions offers intimate, stripped-down renditions of songs from Haynes’ recent solo album, Million Voices Whisper.
“This stripped-down version is actually the only time I’ve performed it this way,” says Haynes. “I played it on my new Signature Gibson Les Paul with P-90 pickups. The cleaner, brighter tone worked perfectly for the rhythm on this kind of soul ballad—something a little different than what people usually expect from me.”

The Whisper Sessions offers a rare, unfiltered look into the heart of each song a space where every lyric and note resonates with striking clarity and emotional depth. This 9-track, digital-only release includes the recent single “These Changes,” featuring co-writer and longtime Allman Brothers Band bandmate Derek Trucks, who appears on three of the album’s tracks.

The album reimagines seven standout tracks from Haynes’ critically acclaimed fourth solo effort, Million Voices Whisper, including the singles “This Life As We Know It” which reached the Top 15 on the Americana singles chart and Top 40 at Triple A radio—and “Real Real Love,” co-starring Trucks and featuring lyrics originally started by Gregg Allman. Rounding out the collection are two powerful covers, including a moving take on the Allman Brothers Band classic “Melissa,” also featuring Trucks.
Each track on The Whisper Sessions is stripped down to its emotional core, spotlighting Haynes’ soulful voice, expressive guitar work, and masterful storytelling.
