Young Martyrs Reveal Music Video For ‘Never Gave You The Blues’

Bath-based alt-americana four-piece Young Martyrs reveal the music video for their single ‘Never Gave You The Blues’,
Formed in 2020, the band wasted no time in making their mark, releasing their self-titled debut album and heading out on their first UK headline tour the very same year—selling out shows nationwide. The success of that tour led to support slots with Badly Drawn Boy, The Hoosiers, and McFly, as well as appearances at major festivals including Glastonbury and Rock Oyster.

Their 2023 sophomore record, Time Is Not On Our Side, expanded their reach beyond the UK, with shows across New York City and a rapidly growing international fanbase.
Produced by Sebastian Brice (Indefra Studios) at Real World Studios and featuring guest vocals from Natalie Brice (Sinnober), ‘Never Gave You The Blues’ blends tender rhythms, lush harmonies, and sweeping, country-tinged guitar lines. Originally released on Time Is Not On Our Side, the track explores the collapse of a relationship through contrasting perspectives.

Frontman Tom Corneill explains:
“‘Never Gave You The Blues’ is about the breakdown of something beautiful, but he sees it one way and she sees it another. He says if he’d known it was going to hurt them both he would never have started it… but we know that’s not really true. It’s a classic he said / she said story; not everyone can be telling the truth.”
Having spent much of 2025 in the studio working on new material set for release throughout 2026, Young Martyrs have also been collaborating with Furball Films to reimagine their previous singles. The ‘Never Gave You The Blues’ video follows June’s release of ‘Everything Else Disappears’, which received support from RGM and RTE.

On choosing this track for a visual release, Corneill reflects:
“This was the second single from our second album and always a favourite for us, but being self-funded we’d run out of budget after recording the album and releasing its first single. After our first UK headline tour, this was the song audiences shouted for the most, so once we secured some funding we knew we had to make something really special for it.”
