Chicago bluesman Toronzo Cannon defies all expectations. The blistering guitarist, soulful vocalist, singular songwriter and city bus driver fuses his muscular, rock-inspired blues guitar playing with his original, keenly detailed slice-of-life songs, blazing his own blues trail. With the 2016 release of his Alligator Records debut, The Chicago Way, Cannon burst onto the international stage as one the most electrifying bluesmen to emerge from Chicago in decades. His live performances unfailingly earn him heaps of critical praise and hordes of wildly enthusiastic fans. Cannon has played major cities all over the U.S., Canada, and Europe. He recently performed for the first time in Japan, delighting and surprising audiences with one unforgettable gig after another. Now, with the release of The Preacher, The Politician Or The Pimp, Cannon builds upon the foundation he’s laid, creating and defining his vision of contemporary blues.
The Preacher, The Politician Or The Pimp features twelve Cannon originals, ranging from the burning social commentary of the title track to the wryly told, up-to-the-minute truths of Insurance to the trademark Cannon humor of Stop Me When I’m Lying and Ordinary Woman. He gets serious on the haunting The First 24, the Martin Luther King-inspired The Silence Of My Friends and on the moving final track, I’m Not Scared. Cannon’s blazing guitar and soul-baring vocals are front and center. His songwriting is inspired by his deep Chicago roots, the wisdom of his grandparents and his years of observing the public while driving a bus. His songs tell timeless stories of common experiences in uncommon ways.
"Deep, contemporary Chicago blues… razor-sharp guitar and compelling, forceful singing" –Chicago Tribune
"Cannon is at the front rank of Chicago bluesmen. He creates wide-screen modern arrangements for wry, thoughtful songs, molding an ensemble sound that’s both tempestuous and scrupulously controlled." –MOJO

Special Guest: Aaron Dessner’s Big 37d03d Machine
Justin Vernon noemt 'i,i' de meest volwassen plaat van Bon Iver.

ROBERTO FONSECA AWARD-WINNING CUBAN PIANIST AND COMPOSER ROBERTO FONSECA SHARES NEW SINGLE ‘AGGUA’ Clip out now ! (Album Yesun out 18/10)
Over the course of a glittering career spanning eight solo albums, numerous sold-out global tours, collaborations with some of music’s brightest stars and accolades including Grammy nominations and most recently, the prestigious Ordre des Arts Letters (Order of Arts and Letters) from the French Ministry of Culture, Roberto Fonseca – pianist, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, composer and bandleader – has become a reference point.
A few heartbeats into Fonseca’s new feel good single, ‘Aggua’, and there’s no doubting its creator. All the signatures are present: the impeccable finger-work. The innate feel for melody. The classical chops, contemporary references and deep roots in the AfroCuban tradition. The spirited, flowing creativity, building tension here, subverting song structure there, offering freedom, variety, elation.
Pa la rumba vamos ya/Que yo quero quiero guarachar We are going to the rumba/We want to enjoy the party
“This tune felt very natural to write,” says Fonseca of ‘Aggua’, on which he plays grand piano, analogue keyboards and percussion and contributes intimate, bossa-nova style vocals. “I wanted to represent my Cuban roots with a tumbao” – the core rhythm that nourishes salsa, mambo and Latin jazz, and a word often used to describe the sensual way in which a woman walks – “and I wanted to shake up some stuff.”
‘Aggua’ was originally an instrumental that Fonseca and his trio, drummer Raul Herrera and double bassist Yandy Martínez Rodriguez, developed and refined in their twice-weekly shows at La Zorro y el Cuervo, Havana’s hippest jazz venue. When recording the single, he added voice – his own, with harmonies from Yipsi Li and famed bolero diva Mercedes Cortes – and percussive flourishes including the fierce grooves of conguero Adel González.
Then, since ‘Aggua’ is a rallying cry, an open invitation to join in, have fun, be free, a wealth of other sounds from Cuba were added to the mix: “We have a little mambo and rumba, some reggaeton and hip-hop,” says Fonseca. “I’m combining all these elements to make something tender but also powerful and spiritual. This song is calling people to a party so nice it will fill your soul completely.”
As the stunning accompanying video by director Joseph Ros make clear, this is a party so powerful it calls forth the orisha deities of the AfroCuban Santeria religion – in this instance, Yemaya, variously the mother of Fonseca’s designated warrior-deity, Chango, the protectress of children and the mother of the sea.
With ‘Aggua’, Fonseca offers a taste of his forthcoming ninth album, Yesun, a trio-based masterwork that blends genres, leaps boundaries, explores new territories. Boasting guests features by the likes of rapper/singer Danay Suarez reedsman Joe Lovano and trumpeter Ibrahim Maalouf, Yesun follows 2017’s wildly popular ABUC, which traced the evolution of Cuban jazz and took it, pulsing, into the future. Or if you like, to Yesun. To now.
Box set featuring cover of the Police’s “Next to You” marks 25-year anniversary of britpop band’s debut I Should Coco
Three days after reuniting for the first time in 10 years at Glastonbury’s Pilton Party, Britpop veterans Supergrass announced a reunion tour and a career-spanning box set. The band also released a cover of the Police’s “Next to You,” the opening track to 1978’s Outlandos d’Amour.
Titled Supergrass: The Strange Ones 1994 – 2008, the release marks the 25-year anniversary of their britpop masterpiece I Should Coco and will be released on January 24th via BMG. The deluxe box set contains the band’s six albums on vinyl picture disc and CD, posters, badges, an expansive book and over six hours of unreleased material on 13 CDs — including B-sides, outtakes, demos and live tracks.
“I find the music industry quite exciting at the moment because it’s so new and embryonic in so many ways,” frontman Gaz Coombes told NME of the reunion. “It’s quite mad. Where the fuck is it going to go? I’m quite interested to be on that journey and see where it goes … we’re going to have a laugh and bring that Supergrass energy and joy into a slightly disturbed world.”
After playing a show at London’s Oslo Hackney on Monday, the band will embark on an 11-date trek through Europe before heading to North America for a show at the Wiltern in Los Angeles on April 1st and New York’s Brooklyn Steel on April 9th. “Everything aligned for us to make this happen for 2020,” drummer Dan Goffey said in a statement. “It was the first time that we collectively felt the buzz to get back in a room together and play the songs.”

COUNTRY ICON RANDY TRAVIS TO BE HONORED WITH PRESTIGIOUS ASCAP FOUNDERS AWARD AT 2019 ASCAP COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS
Awards to be Held Monday, November 11 in Nashville
Amid a galaxy of country music stars gathered in downtown Nashville for its annual awards shows, industry VIPs will celebrate one of the brightest when Country Music Hall of Fame member Randy Travis receives the prestigious ASCAP Founders Award at the 57th annual American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) Country Music Awards. The exclusive, invitation-only gala, which celebrates the songwriters and publishers of ASCAP’s most-performed country songs of 2018, takes place on Monday, November 11 and will include special guest performances to honor Travis.
“Randy Travis is the seminal country artist of a generation,” said ASCAP Chairman of the Board and President Paul Williams. “His meteoric rise to the top of the country charts was fueled by that unmistakable baritone and a talent for traditional country music that spoke to everyone. As a new artist, Randy garnered international attention at a time when such exposure for country artists was reserved for an iconic few. His music and devotion to classic country sounds are a cornerstone in the genre and it is an honor to present him with this year’s Founders Award.”
The Founders Award is one of ASCAP’s highest honors and is presented to songwriters and composers who have made pioneering contributions to music by inspiring and influencing their fellow music creators. Each recipient is a musical innovator who possesses a unique style of creative genius, which will enrich generations to come. Previous recipients include Rodney Crowell,George Strait, Alan Jackson, Ricky Skaggs, Jackson Brown, Garth Brooks, Emmylou Harris, Tom Petty and Neil Young, among others.
An ASCAP member for almost four decades, North Carolina-born Randy Travis is an unsuspecting trendsetter who influenced the future of country music. With more than 25 million albums sold, he has collected every major music award including seven Grammys, 11 Academy of Country Music Awards, 10 American Music Awards, eight Dove Awards, five Country Music Association awards and two People’s Choice Awards. Travis has racked up 22 No. 1 singles including signature hits like “On the Other Hand,” “Forever and Ever, Amen,” “Diggin’ Up Bones” and “I Told You So,” “Look Heart, No Hands,” and “Whisper My Name.”
By the early 90s, Travis was earning roles in major motion pictures and television series including multiple episodes of “Touched by An Angel.” By the turn of the century, he focused on gospel music, immediately scoring a No. 1 Christian and country hit, “Three Wooden Crosses.”
A member of the Grand Ole Opry since 1986, Travis was inducted to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2016 and has been honored with stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the Music City Walk of Fame in Nashville. The Music of Randy Travis Tour begins on October 16 in Indianapolis, with guest vocalist James Dupré and Travis’s longtime touring band Steve Hinson, Dave Johnson, Lance Dary, Bill Cook, Joe Van Dyke and Herb Shucher, rejoining “Hoss,” as they affectionately call Travis, on the road for the first time since his stroke in 2013. Shane Alexander was given his first guitar at the age of ten and there’s been no looking back. Quietly making a name for himself with an extensive touring history in the US and Europe (supporting acts such as Bon Iver and John Hiatt) and dozens of film and TV credits, he has also been working hard in the studio both producing and creating.
A Life Like Ours marks Alexander’s 7th studio album and his 2nd that has been self-produced out of his own Buddhaland Studios in Ventura County, CA. The new album, mixed by the Grammy-winning Brian Yaskulka, follows the critically acclaimed Bliss and once again draws together some of the finest musicians in the Los Angeles community. Returning from his previous release is Jesse Siebenberg (Lady Gaga, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real) on lap steel, guitar and percussion. The album also features Ted Russell Kamp (Shooter Jennings) on bass, LA-ace Carl Byron (Jim Lauderdale) on piano, accordion and keys and Austin Beede (Grateful Shred) on drums. The productions range from stirring solo acoustic pieces to lush full-band rockers.
Alexander is a self-confessed “shameless” guitar collector. “Much of the new record features a jumbo Guild acoustic from the 60’s that used to belong to Bruce Springsteen,” he divulged. “It’s a juju machine. The piano in my studio has been in my wife’s family for ages and it really shines in a classic way. At the end of ‘Nights in White Satin’ you can hear the piano’s hammers softly hitting the strings and Carl’s ticking watch, which adds a certain Floyd-ish element after such a dense track.”
In addition to writing, co-writing, and producing his own records, Alexander has been busy producing other acts at his studio including critics-darling Jenny Van West’s Happiness to Burn and Shelby Figueroa’s Highwire EP. For Van West’s record, Alexander enlisted Kamp on bass and Beede on drums and realized he wanted them for his own record. “Ted and Austin are just a powerhouse rhythm section.” Aside from “Nights”, which features the rhythm section from Alexander’s album, Bliss, Byron, Kamp and Beede are on all the full band tracks and together they have a slightly groovier, less heavy-handed feel than his last record.
Alexander, A long practicing Buddhist, allows for a certain vulnerability and spirituality to come through in his songs. “I’d written a lot of angry music in response to the current political state in America,” he explained. “I was fed up with the divisiveness. People are marketed specifically to pick sides, and all of the finger pointing isn’t healthy or necessary. Ultimately, I put a lot of music on the back burner because I didn’t want to contribute to the din of negativity. I ended up wanting to put more love and peace into what I made.”
Often upbeat, A Life Like Ours also deals with some harsh realities, including the suicide survivor’s song “Lost Road”—written for the family of a boy Shane went to high school with, and the anti-gun violence anthem “I’ll Be Here” (recently featured on ABC’s The Rookie), written within hours of and in response to the horrible Vegas mass shooting.
The title track is a sparse acoustic song recorded live that features Chris Pierce on harmonica. The song is a reflection on growing older and making peace with everything and everyone before we “return to where we came from and we’re just particles of stars.” “Fault Line” is a quiet folk song about keeping a relationship together through highs and lows and highlights guest artist Aubrey Richmond (Shooter Jennings) on fiddle. “Evermore” with its idyllic lyric about a parallel universe, ends the album on a note of hope.
Known for his pretty, evocative voice, moody melodies, and fingerstyle guitar chops, Alexander is also a storyteller in every sense of the word. “I’m always writing,” he confessed. “The real juicy inspiration comes from a mystical place that I don’t fully understand. I’ve learned not to think so much, just put pen to paper and see what comes out.”
Shane Alexander truly believes in the making of an album as an art form. “ I hope that my fans will listen to A Life Like Ours top to bottom to get my full intent. In this age of picking off songs digitally, I’m making this record on limited edition white vinyl for those who are into that sort of thing!”

Beluister 'Back On The Road’ hier: https://skc.lnk.to/backontheroad.
Must-see!

Daar komt nu verandering in.

Grote songs als de film-soundtrack ‘Harry’s Game’ en ‘I will find you’, staan in ieders geheugen gegrift.

Now celebrating over ten years as a full time vocalist-leader, Carolyn Lee Jones burst on to the jazz scene in November 2008. This is Jones’ “second act” after a long and successful career, traveling the world as a Buyer, for luxury retailers. She always wanted to sing professionally and has proven that you can do anything if you really want it !
Since launching her music career, Carolyn has recorded and released three studio albums, her first in 2008, Bon Appetit, featuring the late Bob Dorough. This was followed by; The Performer in 2013, In A Long White Room in 2016 and now her newest and fourth release, CLOSE YOUR EYES. From Jazz Times to Amazon the reviewers have stated that Jones’ sound is sensual, intimate and silky. In 2017 she was honored as Cabaret Artist of The Year by Dallas’ premier arts organization, the Sammons Center For The Arts, where she performs frequently.
Home based in Dallas, Texas she entertains with her musicians as Carolyn Lee Jones & Fresh Vintage Jazz Ensemble. Her eclectic repertoire of classic jazz standards, retro pop tunes with a jazz twist or experiencing her intimate cabaret-jazz shows, she embraces the music with, style, sophistication and panache!
Jones worked with three of her close musical partners, Brad Williams, Sergio Pamies & Dave Pierce, for the arrangements on this album. From soft, sultry and sexy, to joyous and upbeat or just tongue-in-cheek honest, this album says it all about the condition of love. Listen to each song as Carolyn Lee Jones puts her personal stamp on each of them! “I wanted my fourth album to reflect
where I am now in my musical journey and to sing taking what I’ve loved about each song and making them my own with a fresh point of view.”

The video directed by “The Shape of Water” producer J. Miles Dale premieres this Friday on Vevo and YouTube.
TORONTO (4 September 2019): It’s the quirkiest song on Monkey House’s new album, “Friday,” and the genre-blurring band pulled out a big gun to tell the story visually. The Academy Award-winning producer of “The Shape of Water,” J. Miles Dale, a huge Monkey House fan, directed the idiosyncratic “Shotgun” video. They’ll pull the trigger on the premiere this Friday on Vevo and YouTube (http://vevo.ly/tE969H).
Most of “Friday” serves a cosmopolitan cocktail of sophisticated R&B, contemporary jazz progressions and funk-rock grooves penned with a nighttime vibe from an outsider’s perspective that Monkey House songwriter Don Breithaupt describes as someone “who is way down the rabbit hole.” But Breithaupt shifts gears on “Shotgun,” unadulteratedly indulging his fancy for pop and lightening the lyrical theme to someone crushing at first sight. The bouncy rhythm and vibrant hook offer a playful taste of fading summer, calling for a colorful video treatment. Getting Dale to direct the clip was an unexpected and very welcome circumstance. Monkey House coproducer and ALMA Records chief Peter Cardinali goes way back with Dale. Knowing that he’s a fan, Cardinali invited the Oscar winner into the studio as the band tracked horns for “Friday.” Dale hung out for hours and when he heard Cardinali express the desire to shoot a video for “Shotgun,” he offered to direct.
“(Dale directing) is one of those wonderful things that falls into your lap. His fanship is genuine. He recently came to our debut live gig. Before we went on stage, he said to me, ‘If you forget the lyrics, look over at me. I’ll be singing right along,’” recalled Breithaupt, who produced the last two Monkey House albums with Cardinali.
The video was lensed in Toronto at Pinewood Studios, a world-class facility. “Miles called in his A team – lighting, cinematography, wardrobe, makeup, gaffers, etc. – that happened to be available. It was a massive crew. We had no idea the scale of what Miles was putting together until we showed up on the set. Initially, we thought the crew was there for a different shoot. Then we realized this big production was for us. That was kind of cool. But even then, the magic of what Miles captured on film is the spirit and energy of the song, which is pretty self-evident,” said Breithaupt.
Dale said, “The way this came together was fated. Unbeknownst to anyone, I was pretty much the #1 Monkey House fan out there. When I realized my old friend, Peter Cardinali, was producing their records, I asked to come into the studio to hang, listen, and meet Don (Breithaupt) and the band. When Peter told me he wanted to do a video for ‘Shotgun,’ I volunteered on the spot. Would not have missed the chance!”
Monkey House’s fifth album, “Friday” debuted at No. 1 on the iTunes chart in Canada, Norway and several other territories, No. 4 in the United States and No. 5 on the pop charts in Germany when it dropped on July 26. The album also entered the Billboard chart at No. 11.
With Breithaupt handling piano, keyboards, organ, and lead and backing vocals, the core band that has been together for 25 years consists of guitarist Justin Abedin, drummer and percussionist Mark Kelso and bassist Pat Kilbride. Supplementing the sound is a horn section consisting of trumpeters William Sperandei and Tony Carlucci, alto saxophonist Vern Dorge, tenor saxophonist John Johnson and trombonist William Carn; along with percussionist Art Avalos and background vocalist Lucy Woodward.
“We opted to use a small horn section on this album because I wanted it to feel more like a jazz gig, something more spare,” said Breithaupt. “After playing together for 25 years, now that I know my core band members so well, I can write things specific for each player. For instance, take the bassline on ‘10,000 Hours.’ Picturing Pat, I knew he’d be amazing on it. I tend to be very specific like that when I write. I then live with the bass, drum, guitar and keyboard tracks for a while before doing vocals and adding horns and percussion.”
Among the noteworthy guests on “Friday” is legendary Grammy winners Manhattan Transfer who ply their trademark voices to illumine “The Jazz Life.” Snarky Puppy guitarist Mark Lettieri shreds in the solo spotlight on the album opener, “10,000 Hours.” Drew Zingg (Boz Scaggs) delivers a timely guitar solo on “Nine O’clock Friday.” Michael Leonhart (Steely Dan) is featured blowing a regal muted trumpet throughout the amorous ode to New York City, adding warmth to “Island Off The Coast Of America.”

The first single, “Vibin’ Out,” written and produced by hitmaker Darren Rahn, goes for playlist adds on September 9. Album drops October 4.
LOS ANGELES (3 September 2019): It’s common. You go to school and prepare for a certain career path, but somehow the focus shifts. Years can go by before you realize that you have veered off course. R&B-jazz saxophonist Dante’ caught himself drifting and after some soul searching, realized that his joy would be found in music as a recording artist. He assembled an experience crew of proven producers, songwriters and musicians to help him craft “Mint,” his debut album that drops October 4.
Dante’ is a Berklee College of Music graduate who was featured on rapper J. Cole’s 2011 heralded first album, “Cole World: The Sideline Story.” As an entrepreneur, he created Dante’ Neck Straps, handcrafted performance straps used by sax stars Dave Koz, Paul Taylor, Jackiem Joyner, Marcus Anderson, Walter Beasley, Mike Phillips, Joe Lavano and others. There were other successful business ventures outside of music that Dante’ spearheaded, but his spirit wasn’t fulfilled. After introspection, he felt that what would satiate his artistic expression would be making records as an artist.
“I’m constantly tangled up in multiple projects. One day I said to myself, ‘What do I really want to do? What will bring me the most joy?’ The answer was music. Instead of dropping everything and start chasing gigs, I decided to create a record and put myself out to the world through music,” said Dante’, who plays soprano sax throughout “Mint” with the exceptions being an alto sax on two songs: “Kansai Groove” and “Before We Begin.”
He knew his first single had to be “something fun to get people moving,” introducing his sound – a fusion of contemporary jazz, soul, funk and pop – with the help of an established hitmaker. Dante’ tapped fellow saxophonist and chart-topping artist-producer-songwriter Darren Rahn to craft “Vibin’ Out,” which goes for playlist adds on September 9.
Dante’ co-wrote all of the original songs for “Mint,” writing half the tunes with Grammy and Emmy nominee Rex Salas (Janet Jackson, Vanessa Williams, Boyz II Men). “I owe a lot to Rex because he gave me my first shot and believed in me when no one else did.”
The melodies and rhythms on the session were played by an accomplished crew consisting of guitarists Darrell Crooks and Allen Hinds; keyboardists and programmers Rahn, Greg Manning and Daniel “Doc Junya” Hargrove; bassists Anthony Crawford, Nate Kearney and Mel Brown; and drummers Eric Valentine, Tarell Martin and Nate Barns. Dante’ produced “Mint” with Manning, who co-wrote and plays piano on the Japanese tinged, New Jack Swing cut “Kansai Groove.”
The album’s lone cover is Daniel Caesar and H.E.R.’s “Best Part,” which Dante’ re-envisions as an atmospheric instrumental.
“I would say the best part of doing this record is the fact that I got to learn a lot about the process to the point where I could help someone else make a record. I’m a jack of all trades and I learn very quickly. Add to that the fact that I had access to some of the best talent in the business, which made everything possible. Watching and learning how they do what they do was priceless,” said the Los Angeles-based Dante’.
“Lately, I have been trying to focus on fewer things and doing them well instead for doing lots of things and overlooking fine details. With ‘Mint,’ I really focused and made sure I had the right people on my team to execute every component of the record. It was a lot of trial and error, but in the end, I came out with a project that I am very proud of.”
“Mint” contains the following songs:
“Take It Slow”
“Before We Begin”
“The Wish (Acoustic)”

A true musical citizen of the world, French born, NYC based vocalist Chloe Perrier has one goal every time she and her French Heart Jazz Band take the stage at clubs throughout Manhattan - to make people happy and transport them away from the chaos and stress of life in the modern world. Drawing from such influences as Josephine Baker, Ella Fitzgerald and Blossom Dearie, the singer uses her velvety voice, spellbinding style and charming accent to transform any room she plays into a realm harkening back to the golden age of jazz.
Holding court onstage these past three years at venues as Club Bonafide, Cornelia Street Café and the McKittrick Hotel, Chloe and her “dream team” of musicians dive deep into a repertoire of French “chansons” and American jazz standards from the jazz age, taking their audiences on a journey back in time for a soul transportive experience she playfully describes as “Gatsby in Paris.” The idea sparked in 2016, when the Consulate General of France invited her to put together a “Gatsby themed soirée” to celebrate the 90th anniversary of its residence on Fifth Avenue. Chloe eventually built an entire show around the concept.
Now, with her new album Petite Fleur, released and distributed worldwide by the independent label Jazzheads, Chloe brings her alluring Parisian charm beyond the Big Apple for the first time. The October 22nd drop of the album will be celebrated with a party and performance at The Cutting Room, and prior to that, the album's lead single “Comes Love” and its music video -- created by Chloe and Los Angeles based cinematographer Jesse Green -- will premiere on September 13th. Simultaneously, Chloe and the French Heart Jazz Band will be performing at the Sunset-Sunside jazz club in Paris.
Before moving to New York from Paris six years ago to develop her career as a singer and actress, Chloe had already visited the city, working on an arts-related documentary. While she was gathering footage of the daily lives of New York based artists, she met guitarist Akira Ishiguro, who later introduced her to drummer Rodrigo Recabarren: the chemistry was immediate and she launched her first trio – which ultimately evolved into the French Heart Jazz band, when upright bassist Jim Robertson was added to the band.
Petite Fleur features soulful, lyrical and swinging performances by the original quartet, joined memorably for this project by special guests clarinetist Jon Hunt and - adding touches of magical retro-romance – violinist Caroline Bugala. The 12-track collection was produced by Chloe and recorded at the Samurai Hotel Recording Studio in Queens by Grammy-winning sound engineer Max Ross from System Two.
Drawn from favorites among the band’s ever-expanding repertoire, Petite Fleur includes two of French songwriter Charles Trenet's greatest hits, “Menilmontant” and “Que reste-t-il de nos amours”; a tribute to American jazz vocalist Helen Merrill’s seductive and whimsical “Lorsque tu m’embrasses (Just Squeeze Me)”; George Shearing's Ella Fitzgerald popularized sexy swinger “Lullaby of Birdland”; the sensual “J’ai deux amours” originally written for Josephine Baker in 1930; an unexpected high energy take on Edith Piaf's classic “La Vie En Rose”; the briskly paced “Je voudrais en savoir d’avantage” made famous by 1930s bandleader Ray Ventura, which lends itself to Chloe’s quick, rhythmic phrasing; and of course, the “hidden” title track “Petite Fleur,” by the great Sidney Bechet, recorded by Chloe in honor of her grandfather's favorite song.
The album’s tracks in English include a classic of the Django Reinhardt repertoire, the spirited call and response tune “Coquette”; “Guilty,” one of Al Bowlly's signature songs, previously included in the soundtrack of popular French film Amélie; and the bolero-mambo classic “Sway,” given a touch of international class and sass via Chloe’s French accent.
“What I love about this period from the 1920s to the ‘40s is that the music is really happy, and it brings people great joy when I sing it,” says the singer. “This is an atmosphere I love to communicate to my audiences. Coeur de Francaise, my first album that I recorded in France before moving to New York, was more romantic and melancholic, based on songs from the 60s through the 90s. Petite Fleur is about love and its sound is decidedly more joyful and upbeat."
“The times we live in are pretty dark,” she adds, “and I like the opportunity to take people away from their problems and help them stay positive, even if just for an hour. People tell me at the end of the show that they feel like they’re in Paris in the 30s. The challenge is to keep those who have seen the show multiple times engaged, so I am always YouTube hopping or buying old vinyls in search of unique jazz standards and French chansons from that era."
Born in the French Alps, Chloe started ballet dancing and playing the violin at a young age. At age ten she moved to Paris where she started acting and singing, and by age thirteen she was already working professionally in the entertainment industry. After a well-received first concert at “Le Reservoir” -- thrown together on a dare, after a bet with famous actor and comedian Mouss Diouf -- she began focusing on music, studying vocal jazz with Sara Lazarus as well as composition and piano with Joe Makholm for three years at the Bill Evans Piano Academy in Paris. During this time, Chloe started to compose her first songs. Furthering her education, Chloe participated in various workshops with prominent French and American musicians.
After years of performing in France and releasing her successful first album, she decided “to follow her dream and dive into the wonderful world of NYC Jazz." "Barely speaking English, I moved to the Big Apple with my artist visa and my microphone. During my time here, I’ve been able to meet and work with wonderful musicians from all around the world including my dream team, which I call my brothers from another mother. After playing all over the city that doesn’t sleep, I created a new band with them called the French Heart Jazz Band.”
Nowadays Chloe performs with these and other musicians in different formats, from duet to septet, in several locations and clubs both in Paris and in NYC -- at the Zinc Bar, The Iridium, Feinstein's/54 Below, Winter Cabaret festival, Summer Cabaret Festival, Vintage Train Swing Festival, Why Not jazz club, Cornelia Street Cafe, Club Bonafide,The Manderley and Gallow Green at The Mc Kittrick Hotel (Home of the famous show Sleep No More), The Top of the Standard, The Plaza, Lotte New York Palace, The Beekman Hotel, the Flatiron Room and Fine & Rare and more. The singer has also performed live on radio and TV shows like “Jazzbox” on Radio Aligre, “La bande Passante” on RFI, Bastille TV, and “Telematin” France 2.
“As a little girl growing up in France,” Chloe says, “I fell in love with music and I was listening to old records of Claude Nougaro, Serge Gainsbourg and the musical for kids ‘Emilie Jolie’ all the time. All these years later, it’s a wonderful pleasure to sing for people and provide a type of musical therapy for others the way my favorite music has always been an uplifting and healing force in my life. Club Bonafide where I have a residency and other clubs has been a wonderful ‘laboratory’ for me and my band to try out new material and develop arrangements and a repertoire that helps lift everybody’s mood. Together, we capture a vintage feeling with a modern twist – and were able to take that into the studio and, with Max Ross’ help, make some real magic!”

On October 18 2019, Joe Bonamassa will release ‘Live at the Sydney Opera House’ on CD and 2LP via Provogue Records, and digitally via J&R Adventures.
Fans and critics alike have been asking the big question of two-time GRAMMY-nominated blues king Joe Bonamassa – “Will there be a new album in 2019?”
That question is answered with the announcement of ‘Live At The Sydney Opera House’, a brand new live album from “arguably the world’s biggest blues guitarist” (Guitar World) featuring 10 recordings from his 2016 performance at one of the world’s most legendary venues. This includes previously unreleased versions of tracks from his coveted No. 1 album ‘Blues of Desperation’.
The vinyl includes an exclusive bonus track: “Livin’ Easy”, not available on the CD.
The double vinyl includes a code for a complimentary MP3 download of the album.
As always, we’ll add a free poster to every pre-order!
As a UNESCO Heritage Monument The Sydney Opera House sits alongside the Great Pyramids Of Egypt, the Great Wall Of China and the Taj Mahal. For those that have the honor to play a venue as sacred as the Opera House, they bring their absolute best to the stage. Bonamassa is no exception to the rule, always rising to the challenge and bringing his A-game, so the praised musician brought with him a band composed of some of today’s best musicians and singers to support him in delivering a masterful concert to be cherished for years to come. This stellar band includes Late Night with David Letterman’s Anton Fig (percussion), Nashville recording legend Michael Rhodes (bass guitar), Rock & Roll Hall of Famer and member of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, Reese Wynans (keyboards), Paulie Cerra (sax), and Lee Thornburg (trumpet), with Mahalia Barnes, Juanita Tippins, and Gary Pinto on backing vocals.
He was musical royalty in Detroit, and played a role in some of the biggest soul music hits of the 70s. Tonight we are sad to inform SoulTrackers of the death of the great producer, engineer and songwriter, Clay McMurray.
McMurray first made waves in 1967 when he teamed with local singer Spyder Turner to create a fun and humorous take on Ben E. King’s “Stand By Me” that had Turner singing the song while doing impressions of such notables as Smokey Robinson, Jackie Wilson and David Ruffin. The song became a smash hit and Turner’s signature song, shooting into the upper ranks of both the R&B and Pop charts.
Four years later, McMurray would help create a classic, producing Gladys Knight’s first #1 Motown hit, the McMurray, Pam Sawyer and Gloria Jones composition “If I Were Your Woman,” a song that has become an all-timer, and that has been remade several times – but none as great as the original.
Over the following years, McMurray worked with virtually all the great Motown acts, from The Four Tops to The Spinners to The Supremes. He then followed fellow Motown producer Norman Whitfield and worked on the monster movie soundtrack for Car Wash.
Clay McMurray continued to be a force in Detroit music for years after national fame faded, and he helped groom multiple generations of artists, with the years of wisdom and experience he obtained. He will be missed.

TINNITIST PREMIERES THE TORONTO-BASED SINGER-SONGWRITER'S NEW VIDEO "CANVAS OF GOLD"
CLICK HERE TO CHECK IT OUT
Jerry Leger has a thing for ghosts. The Toronto singer/songwriter confirmed it a couple of years ago when he went on a personal journey to explore many of Ontario’s largely unknown ghost towns, having been inspired by the writings of historian Ron Brown. Leger has immortalized one of those towns, Burchell Lake, on his new album Time Out For Tomorrow, containing 10 portraits of the impermanence of life, love, or simply catching a glimpse of a shooting star.
Yet, other ghosts reside much deeper in Leger’s songs. Whether they’re the voices of Roy Orbison, Lou Reed, Gene Clark, Rick Danko or Ronnie Lane, they naturally complement the universal truths at the core of Jerry Leger’s music, along with his undying faith in rock ‘n roll as a way for all people to find common ground.
Time Out For Tomorrow continues Leger’s run of consistently high output and displays the finely honed artistic vision that has been evident since 2005 when, at age 19, he released the first of nine studio albums, along with three more with his side projects The Del-Fi’s and The Bop-Fi’s. It’s added up to a body of work that was recently celebrated with the European-only compilation Too Broke To Die, aimed at Leger’s growing fan base in Britain and the EU.
Most of those listeners didn’t discover Leger until his 2014 album Early Riser, his first with Michael Timmins of Cowboy Junkies handling production duties, as well as the first to be released on the Junkies’ label, Latent Recordings. The combination of Timmins’ capture-the-moment production aesthetic and the Rolling Thunder-esque chemistry of Leger’s longtime band The Situation (plus a few special guests) now appears unbeatable. And although Time Out For Tomorrow may not be as expansive as Leger’s previous Timmins-produced effort, the acclaimed 2017 double album Nonsense And Heartache, its more concentrated dose of everything Leger does best is just as potent.
“I got the name for the album from an early ‘60s dime store collection of science fiction short stories a friend gave me,” he explains. “Everything around me seems like science fiction these days, and the phrase ‘Time Out For Tomorrow’ fit these songs and my mood in one way or another.”
In keeping with his love of all things vintage, Leger is a voracious vinyl collector and notes that when recording Time Out For Tomorrow, the two albums he was listening to most often were Lou Reed’s Coney Island Baby, and Nick Lowe’s The Impossible Bird. He says their influence had more to do with the overall sound he wanted to project rather than any specific musical or lyrical content.
“Coney Island Baby was the first solo Lou Reed record I heard, probably around age 14, and I’ve always loved it,” he says. “The production just glides along and really puts the focus on the words. My song ‘Justine’ on this record benefited from that the most.
“I got into Nick Lowe through Elvis Costello, and with The Impossible Bird, there's a real brightness to that album—the sound just makes me feel good when I hear it. It's the same feeling as when I throw on an old Everly Brothers record like ‘Cathy's Clown.’ It gets me out of a depression every time, even though it has depressing lyrics! I wanted Time Out For Tomorrow to have that same kind of open arms sound to it while still presenting lyrics about the human condition for better or worse. I think my song ‘I Would’ is one Nick Lowe might dig.”
Indeed, other songwriters of Lowe’s caliber, such as Ron Sexsmith, and outlets such as Rolling Stone, PopMatters and the Toronto Star have sung Leger’s praises. He’s also shared stages with The Sadies, Justin Townes Earle, Deer Tick, Dawes, and others, along with making his debut at Holland’s Take Root Festival in 2018 alongside Neko Case, Kurt Vile, Father John Misty, Shakey Graves and Alejandro Escovedo.
Canada may be known more these days for punching above its weight in the global pop music field, but its long and storied tradition of singer/songwriters refuses to die. Jerry Leger is carrying that torch, and if there’s any further proof needed that he’s at the vanguard, just listen to Time Out For Tomorrow.

‘Life Is Long’, dat gaat over herinneringen aan een familieweekend in West-Ierland die getuigen van een essentiële carpe diem mindset: “Life is long/ But the time is short.”
‘Life Is Long’ is an anthemic recollection of a family weekend in West Ireland which encompasses a vital carpe diem mindset – “Life is long / But the time is short.'' In ‘Life Is Long’, Wallis has captured a significant moment in time, and offers it as a gift to her parents. A weekend of laughing, eating and good company sees Wallis sentimental about her parents; noting how fortunate she is to have the relationship they have. The song even begins with a recording of her parents from that very trip.

Ian Siegal zal weinig toelichting behoeven. De meervoudig UK Blues Awards winnaar wordt o.a. door MOJO magazine “the cleverest writer and most magnetic Blues Performer in the UK” genoemd.
14 sep Bergen op Zoom – Vestzaktheater i.h.k.v. Popmonument
15 sep Tilburg – Paradox
24 sep Utrecht – TivoliVredenburg (support: Ripoff Raskolnikov)
26 sep Venlo – De Maaspoort (support: Ripoff Raskolnikov)
28 sep Maastricht - Muziekgieterij
Arcano to be unleashed on October 4th with Raging Planet!
Portuguese experimental rock band Vircator have announced to return with their third, full length album on October 4th via Raging Planet. Titled Arcano, on their upcoming record the four-piece collective takes a new step on experimenting dimensional dramatic instrumentals, searching for new sounds, emotions and textures, and exploring the polarity of quiet and loud, complexity and simplicity, ugliness and beauty to the same time.
