"A Little Too Late," Produced by Kid Andersen and Featuring Backing by West Coast Musician All-Stars
“Recording at Greaseland was by far the most efficient and enjoyable studio experience of my music career thus far. I was a little nervous at first because I had never met Kid in person or the band he had put together, and I wasn’t sure if the guys would like the tunes I had written. It turns out the band had made up charts already and after recording six songs the first day, I felt that I had picked the right studio and Kid had chosen the right players. We only had about a week to record and mix everything, so that first day was a good sign. Also, working with Kid Andersen was easy because he knew what sound I was looking for, plus his attitude and sense of humor kept the mood light and everyone relaxed.”
The songs on A Little Too Late strike a perfect balance between blues-oriented tracks and roots rocker/rockabilly sounds, creating a trove of grooves just right for dancing and listening.
“My favorite song on the album is probably ‘Please Don’t Cry,’ says Green. “Lisa Leuschner Andersen sings with me on that track and her voice gives me chills, as well as the piano and organ played by Jim Pugh. This is one of the songs I wrote just a few weeks before heading to California, which makes me think I may write better under pressure. Most of the songs are written about past relationships gone wrong as heard in the title song ‘A Little Too Late.’ I wanted the mood of the album to be playful but also serious like in ‘Damage Done,’ which is about asking for forgiveness. I’ve found I’m most inspired when I’m either beginning a relationship or in the process of ending one. I believe we captured the emotion and feeling I had envisioned for this recording and I couldn’t be happier with the way it came out.”
