BOBBY V PLATINUM SELLING, AWARD WINNING SINGER-SONGWRITER, MUSIC AND FILM PRODUCER, ACTOR AND INDIE LABEL OWNER FEEL ‘ELECTRIK’ ON HIS NEW ALBUM, WHICH REUNITES HIM WITH HIS ORIGINAL PRODUCER, GRAMMY WINNER TIM KELLY OF TIM & BOB
Thirteen years after his Gold-certified debut single “Slow Down” hit the Top Ten on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent four consecutive weeks at #1 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, Bobby V is hotter than ever, creating fresh, soul-stirring magic in a multitude of ways.
Electrik, the platinum selling, award winning singer, songwriter and performer’s debut album on SRG/Universal Music Group, reveals new depth, strength and honesty as a visionary artist. Its first single, “Lil Bit,” features Snoop Dogg. Bobby is also successful entrepreneur whose label, BlueKolla Dreams, has released three of Bobby’s previous albums while developing the careers of upstart producers and artists (among them, J. Leron and Chris Landry). BET and BET Her continue to run “Hollywood Hearts,” a film based on his 2016 single and album of that name that was executive produced by Bobby and includes him in a featured role. He is also the creator of the Bobby V Foundation, which works in conjunction with his church, Cascade United Methodist Church, to grant full scholarships to deserving students who seek a college education in the arts; the foundation also “adopts” families in need every Christmas and fulfills their holiday “wish lists” with toys, bikes, etc. On the personal side, Bobby is a proud first time father of a 17-month old daughter named Lilac.
The foundation of everything in Bobby V’s world is music. Electrik reunites Bobby with Tim Kelley, who as part of the Grammy winning production duo Tim & Bob, co-produced Bobby’s self- titled 2005 debut album, which hit #1 on the Top R&B Albums chart. The duo also did production on Bobby’s subsequent releases Special Occasion, The Rebirth, Fly on the Wall and Dusk Till Dawn. Bobby first worked with Kelley when the singer was a teenager performing with the R&B group Mista in the mid-90’s. Claude Villant, CEO of the SRG-ILS Group, said, “I am excited to be part of reuniting Tim Kelley and Bobby V. Together, they made some incredible music, and I know they are about to shock the music world again.”
True to its title, Electrik finds Bobby at the top of his creative game. “I was going through a lot of emotional upheavals good and bad when I was making this album,” he says. “There was the blessing of the birth of my daughter but also a lot of media and social media driven controversy. I was in a much darker place than during any other time I recorded albums throughout my career, and so it’s truer to my heart and who I really am as a person than a lot of those. Writing and recording Electrik allowed me to release a lot of those emotions through music. Tim felt where I was at the time, vulnerable, cold and alone, and helped me get in touch with those emotions and express them honestly. The title represents how I was feeling at the time, going through different shocks in my life and allowing them to flow through me as different vibes, moods and moments.”
Bobby has worked over the years with a literal who’s who of the hip hop and R&B world, including Ludacris, 50 Cent, Gucci Mane, 2 Chainz, Future, Meek Mill, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, K. Michelle, and Timbaland. He has won two Urban Music Awards, a BMI Award and has been nominated for an NAACP Image Award, a Vibe Award and two Soul Train Awards. Bobby has millions of fans all over the world who love his music but still need to know more about the heart of the man behind it. A Mass Communications grad from Clark Atlanta University, he’s a devoted son who has dinner with his family in College Park (outside of Atlanta) every Sunday night when he’s not traveling.
His father runs a 7-9 acre urban organic farm in Atlanta, and is considered one of the Top Ten black farmers in America. He grows fruits and vegetables and holds many charitable events and functions, which Bobby often helps organize and participates in. Complementing his father’s work with underserved seniors, who come to learn about and contribute to the farming, Bobby often invites at risk youth to the farm to experience the same sense of growth and fulfillment and learn meaningful life lessons.
One of Bobby’s great passions outside of music is sports. He played baseball in high school and college, and in his spare time, he plays in a basketball league and softball league, plays flag football, boxes and engages in every solitary sport imaginable – swimming, mountain biking, skiing, etc. He works out regularly. He is also well versed on the history and current events happening in baseball, football and basketball. One of his current goals is to leverage his success as an entertainer, his natural magnetism and charisma and his encyclopedic knowledge of sports to become a commentator on ESPN or a similar channel.
